I help coach the local high school “We The People” Constitutional Law team. I ask the kids which they find better: 50% of the electorate voting, where they are informed on the candidates and issues, and know exactly what they are voting for, or 100% of the electorate voting, where half of them have no clue who, what for, or why they are voting?

They struggle with that question.

He’s right. 90% of the people are sheep who are easily herded.

Three 4-year terms. There’s a learning curve, and at some level they’re operating at a disadvantage with respect to the permanent government bureaucracy.

Thus the absolute requirement for STRICT term limits, no exceptions.

Term limits, like campaign finance regulation, only stifles free speech. We already have term limits - it's called VOTE THE BASTARDS OUT. Otherwise, I can't join the chorus of so-called "Conservatives" seeing to stifle my freedom of speech. Doesn't seem very "Conservative".

50% all day long, should be easy.

The idea that the only requirements for voting being citizenship and ability to fog a mirror (with both sometimes optional) would have been anathema to the Founders.

If they aren’t reading the bills, we should be shoving some seriously conservative language in them.

However, I suspect there is some sort of “gentleman’s agreement” to avoid inserting controversial items in them, just to keep the Uni-Party scam going a bit longer.

:(

Supposedly the 10% of dumbest voters, the ones that manage to vote

The problem it that people with the ability to reason, think logically and have morals can not make it through one of our elections supporting a candidate any longer. You do not give them someone to vote for they do not vote....this election is the perfect example.....

Not a single candidate was decent, not a single one and the propaganda media is beyond disgusting to even sit through and now we are left with a communist and two democrat socialist to choose from, one of the socialist just wants to close the borders....wooohooo. He already told us the republicans party is not the conservative party despite the fake Bible carrying he started with.....

There is no one to vote for this year again.

It does not take a genius to figure out America is on its way out as a free people. Look at what the American people elected as President-TWICE!

Well, at least you have an idea of what you want. And certainly many of the folks who choose not to vote can justify why they choose that. But the problem is many can’t. The problem comes from the ones that can’t, yet still manage to vote for reasons that can’t be explained with reason or logic. And supposedly the whole key to electoral victory is convincing enough of these mouth breathers to vote one way or another, or to not vote at all. So the dumbest actually decide elections.

Term limits, like campaign finance regulation, only stifles free speech

so you’d be in favor of dumping the presidential term limit, thus allowing Obama running in the next five elections, which he would stand a good chance of winning...

Sorry, but your premise is wrong, and the word ‘conservative’ is so overused as to be at this point almost meaningless (except as a weapon the left tries to use against those who oppose their agenda).

Term limits are absolutely required, and this has nothing to do with free speech. In fact, the lack of STRICT term limits limits the constitutionally stated rights of American citizens. Our system of government, actually any system of government, can be manipulated (most, if not all have been at some point in time). From an objective, and spiritual perspective, we are all flawed as human beings, and we will find a way to get around laws, and around even constitutionally delineated checks and balances. Thus, to ensure our rights, and the freedom and true representation of our children, we cannot endure career politicians. We just can't. It does not work, and clearly does not select for the ‘cream of the crop’. I would challenge you to tell yourself that our system, with no term limits, has resulted in the best people in elected office. I can't imagine you would agree with that premise after much reflection.

I understand your point that we have a system that allows us to vote people out of office, but you know clearly that incumbency gives many advantages to those in office that helps ensure they will stay in office. It's not that the public is stupid. It's in part due to the fact that the public is comprised of a very broad swath of people from many walks of life, and people generally see what is relevant to the world they encounter daily. That fact in and of itself can be, and is, manipulated.

Politicians are unfortunately very much like sociopathic people who orchestrate divisiveness and chaos around themselves, while seemingly floating above it all - when in actuality they are the ones who have contributed most to this divisiveness and chaos.

Career politician = mediocrity in government and corruption.

Well, thanks to Donald Trump, Conservative has become a pejorative term, and deservedly so. The word has been used to screw over ths country by people who use it to curry favor with their constituents, but that’s where it ends.

“Now, there’s one thing you might have noticed I don’t complain about: politicians. Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don’t fall out of the sky. They don’t pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It’s what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you’re going to get selfish, ignorant leaders. Term limits ain’t going to do any good; you’re just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. So, maybe, maybe, maybe, it’s not the politicians who suck. Maybe something else sucks around here... like, the public. Yeah, the public sucks. There’s a nice campaign slogan for somebody: ‘The Public Sucks. F*ck Hope.”

- George Carlin
