Trump Derangement Syndrome
Breitbart ^ | 11 May 2016 | David Horowitz

Posted on 05/12/2016 1:10:49 AM PDT by detective

I don’t think I speak for myself alone when I confess utter bewilderment at the number of conservatives – among whom I count long-term friends – who seem to have lost their marbles when assessing the presidential candidacy of Donald Trump.

The Wall Street Journal’s Bret Stephens, to take one example that can stand for many, is an astute analyst – in my view one of the best political commentators writing today. Yet he is the author of this opening paragraph in the Wall Street Journal, which leaves me scratching my head, and embarrassed for my friend:

The best hope for what’s left of a serious conservative movement in America is the election in November of a Democratic president, held in check by a Republican Congress. Conservatives can survive liberal administrations, especially those whose predictable failures lead to healthy restorations—think Carter, then Reagan.

This is an excellent article. David Horowitz explains the dishonesty of self described conservatives who want to let Clinton and the Democrats win to "save conservatism".

We have George Will going around and saying that the gop has to ensure that Trump loses all 50 states, but at the same time somehow save the down ballot republican candidates. That idea alone should get him sent to a rubber room, and a course of Electroconvulsive Therapy sessions.

Wait ... what?! A democrat president would be good for the conservative movement?! What is this guy smoking? A Hillary presidency would cause long lasting damage. It would take decades to recover from the far left agenda she would push upon us. Worse than Obama, IMO.

Trump may not be the perfect candidate and maybe he’s wrong in some conservative issues ... but Hillary is wrong on EVERY conservative issue.

David Horowitz is a street fighter. He knows you don't win by losing, you win by winning. Naturally Trump appeals to him.

Derangement is right. It's amazing how GOP establishmentarians who had no problem with George W. Bush's "Compassionate Conservatism" (=watered down liberalism), nor with the liberal backgrounds of McCain and Romney suddenly become purist ideologues when it comes to Trump.

What that double standard tells you is that their objections have nothing to do with ideology whatsoever. Rather, they're just throwing a tantrum because voters rather than party elites got to select the GOP nominee this time. Trump wasn't "their" guy, Jeb and Marco were, and they're going to pout about it for the rest of the election.
