Ted Cruz poised to challenge Trump in Texas
POLITICO ^ | May 11, 2016 | KYLE CHENEY

Ted Cruz isn’t giving up.

While Donald Trump dispatches three advisers to Texas’s convention in Dallas this week and makes a pitch for party unity, his team will be running up against a Cruz operation that is still maneuvering to stuff the state’s delegation with allies the senator could call on to snub the presumptive nominee.

“We have a busy weekend planned,” said a source familiar with the Cruz campaign’s plans.

Cruz is scheduled to deliver an address at the Texas convention after a week of hinting he could jump back into the presidential contest and urging activists to thwart the New Yorker’s takeover of the GOP’s policy platform. And despite dropping out of the race more than a week ago, the vanquished presidential contender has deployed at least one paid adviser to the Texas Republican convention – Tyler Norris, his state director. (Trump has three advisers: state director Joshua Jones, deputy director Eric Mahroum and Houston-area director Kayla Hensley.)

It’s not just Texas where Cruz is still playing.

The senator’s team remains active in several of the other eight state conventions selecting delegates this week – from Nebraska to Oklahoma to Nevada. Those conventions, along with party meetings in Arkansas, Florida and Wisconsin, will be selecting 389 national delegates, nearly a sixth of the entire convention.

If Cruz were still working to send the nomination fight to a contested convention, this weekend’s delegate hunt would have been the main event – the largest single delegate selection weekend of the primary season. Now, it’s become a display of Cruz’s last hardcore bastions of support and a forum for Trump to appeal for unity.

“He has missed more than 94% of Senate votes this year. https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/ted_cruz/412573";

MORE than Obama missed when he ran for Pres!

Can you imagine what would happen to us with a resume like that?

“The guy has lost it...”

He never had it. He is and always has been a mawkish conservative lawn jockey in front of the globalists’ manor.

His conservatism is ornamental, and so is he.

When did we start posting Politico feeds as if it were the gospel and to be taken with an ounce of credibility?

Cruz won Texas BEFORE all the BS he pulled in many of other states...Hopefully, the people of Texas recognize what an a$$ this guy is and handle him accordingly...

Several Texans have moved to Trump and have talked about how they were fooled by Cruz....

This, plus today’s snark from Limbaugh & Romney, has my antenna up. I think Trump’s meeting with Ryan tomorrow has already been mapped out. They’ll be no unity with the establishment and the convention could be a cluster. Hope I’m wrong.

Thought I read that Texas deadline was last week. Could be wrong since I never researched it.

Libertarian is a very real possibility.

I’m sure the Libertarian Party views this cycle as a perfect opportunity to get on the map. Bet they’d dump Gary Johnson at their convention in a nanosecond for a big name such a Romney.

I’ve refrained from criticizing Cruz even after I stopped supporting him and went all in for Trump other than to say I was very disappointed in Cruz for some of his shenanigans.

Now I say that the country dodged a bullet when Cruz withdrew from the race, he’d better stay withdrawn and if the people of Texas are smart they’d do well not to elect him again as one of their Senators.

Sounds like Cruz has some major campaign debts. He is going to need some help paying them off.

What is this nonsense? Politico is a nest of vile vipers.

Cruz said he’s going to run for his 2018 re-election bid.

Why not give it a rest?

Cruz has run a desperate campaign ever since losing the South to Trump. That has, indeed, made him unattractive.

This isn’t about Ted being nominated.

He wants to take control of the convention rules and the party platform.

In other words, he wants to dictate what the message of the party is.

He had great plans of making over the party in his image but then Trump came along and stole his thunder.

Now he wants to say Trump is the winner but he will have to live by Ted’s rules.

He is an arrogant, selfish, delusional POS!

Trump forced Cruz to take some hard stances on immigration. You can expect him to walk those back.
