Newt Gingrich Tops Trump's VP List
Newsmax ^ | May 10, 2016 | John Gizzi

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is now the leading candidate to be tapped by Donald Trump as his running mate, a close confidante of Trump tells Newsmax...

Trump is said to favor Gingrich for several reasons.

First, Trump recognizes he is a Washington neophyte and sees in Gingrich someone who can school him in the legislative process and “make nice” with Capitol Hill...

Trump has other reasons he is leaning toward Gingrich. He is said to personally like him. Rubio, Newsmax reported, has already been eliminated though he lobbied through surrogates for the job. Rubio has denied doing so.

If you are going to go “old” then go with the best, Jeff Sessions.

Don’t see it as a good fit.

I don’t see Christie as a legal shark or a cop
I do think he’d have a role to play where trump needs a tough guy to cut the crap out if the bureaucracy
Taking over an out of control EPA might be a good fit assuming Christie is no global warmist

I’m not sure Gingrich is the best choice, but we don’t know who is or is not available. At least, Gingrich has lots of experience with the press.

I would love Trump to show up with Newt, who has said its Ryan’s responsibility to back the nominee, and unite the party. Who is more conservative than Newt, what Speaker accomplished anywhere near as much as Newt?

Ryan isn’t a conservative Buchanon is right what gives a Puke like Ryan the right to talk about conservative principles. Obama has had his way with Ryan. Ryan has the largest majority of the house ever, and Obama still has no opposition from the GOPe.

This is why the base wants to see Ryan ousted not just from the speakership but from his district.

Months ago I jokingly said Walker would be great at department of Labor. The longer it’s been the more that seems like a good idea.
Can you picture the exploding heads

“Newt Gingrich Tops Trump’s VP List
As well he should.”

I love Newt, but he is damaged goods. Maybe unfairly, but he would not help the ticket. I agree with those that say Chief of Staff.

On the plus side, the “he can navigate the legislative process” argument is quite valid.

On the other, he’s 72. Trump needs a young, energetic heir apparent who can run in the future and make sure the changes stick.

Gingrich for Chief of Staff would make a lot of sense in that scenario.

Agreed.

I dint think trump is as hostile to unions as your traditional “ conservative”
As one of his sons said Trump is a blue collar guy with a bigger bank account

I think the rank and file are going to vote for him and we will see real cooperation between the WH and the unions as trump is able to create real jobs - someone has to build the wall

The teachers unions aren’t going to like trump though

as much as I like Gingrich you are right. I think his vp pick should be younger by about 10 years. I think chief of staff is probably a better fit for the job.

I don’t want to see any family dynasty shit. I have had it with BUSHES, Kennedy and Clintons. I think Trump has raised some real competent children but I hope that they don’t have presidential aspirations...

The best fit would be someone late 40s to early 50s. Who in the Senate or House has been there long enough to fit the bill of helping Trump navigate the political establishment?

Please pardon me for not believing one of DJT's "close" associates is going against what Trump has requested.

Of course, maybe, a trial balloon...?

“I’ve seen it but would rather see Christie as AG with Newt as CoS and Rudy in charge of Homeland Security.”

Me too. However if it is Newt so be it. There are a lot worse choices out there.

He didn’t rape someone like Bill Clinton and are they going to then smear JFK in office?
