West Point won’t punish cadets who posed with raised fists

The 16 black West Point cadets who caused a stir after posing for a photograph with raised fists won’t be disciplined over the image, the U.S. Military Academy said Tuesday.

An internal investigation launched after the snapshot surfaced online has ended with authorities deciding not to discipline the cadets, but to offer them additional counseling ahead of their graduation on May 21, West Point’s superintendent, Lt. Gen. Robert Caslen Jr., said in a letter to the academy’s student body this week.

“While the inquiry did not find that these cadets violated a policy or regulation, it did determine that they demonstrated a lapse of awareness in how symbols and gestures can be misinterpreted and cause division,” he wrote on Tuesday to the Corps of Cadets. “The impact of this photo, regardless of its intent, is evident. It is unfortunate that this perception brought attention to our Alma Mater for all the wrong reasons.”

West Point confirmed last week that an investigation was launched amid concerns raised by the photograph, which shows 16 female members of the Military Academy’s Class of 2016 posing in uniform on school property with their fists raised in the air.

This foto will remain in each of their files, regardless of the lack of action now. Their careers will subtly, or not so subtly, suffer because of this. And as the pendulum swings toward military sanity, their future cries of “discrimination” will be buried.

Last I heard the military values the free ride everyone gets to the academies at $400K. Sorry girls, that we haven’t done enough for you. Please tell us what more is needed to expunge our collective guilt

The hand position of the clenched fist is definitely sybolic of the bolshevik power struggle and subsequently black power.

That is enough for me to show it is not coincidentaal or unintentional.

I suspect that the Superintendent or Commandant at WP has put out a memo ordering that no other group of cadets will organize a similar photo.

Well, they age army, alongwith thaw rest of te military, has become a social experimentation ground. The people elect idiots like Obama and the military gets abused by him, ultimately, though, by the people.

Now you have, after eight years, idiots at the top, including idiots in charge at West Point who.keep these BLM first cadets in, instead of expelling them (what that does to order and morale is not good) of course they’ll be put in charge of something.

Wonder where these geniuses are going to graduate in their class. Does West Point operate a strictly race neutral grading system or do they get extra points for the color of their skins ?

“may as well shut them down.”

That is what this is all about. Close the Academies. Make them the same as liberal universities.

What odds would you give that says in a civil war these WPC would easily shoot white civilians? This should be reviewed for long term implications. The govt won’t need the UN, they have seasoned fighters with a grudge against nonblacks home grown. Very dangerous.

I learned very quickly if I listened to my Platoon Sergeants and First Sergeant they would have my back and point me in the right direction.

they definitely need more courses on how to be a proper soldier

According to this, that's what they're getting.

I get it. They seem to be trying to make a statement that Black Women have come a long was since slavery. Punishment is often in perception. These young ladies might have to spend some time that would have been in celebration of what they've accomplished instead in tedious classroom environments.

Just a guess. Based on years ago being very close to someone who went through the cadet experience.

Oh, they’ve learned alright and they will use that learning for the rest of their Army career. Statistics say there is at least one general officer standing in that photo.

Besides, it’s institutional racism to punish certain racists for racist behavior and a decidedly non-diverse portrait of certain races.

I was in the Army during the Carter years (thank heaven only four). Racial sensitivity training ad nauseum for the white race, training always given by black officers. I can only imagine the ghastly leadership problems honorable officers of all races and certain (vile hetero) orientations must now deal with.

Imagine a first sergeant thru buck sergeant having to sit through sensitivity training from any in this group of lieutenants.

And imagine the suspicions they have brought on themselves and all other officers of the same rough age, gender, and race.

One would think from the post that they didn’t know what they were doing. Guess the USMA has misplaced the honor code as well.

Ok, so if white cadets do something just as wrong and stupid they shouldn’t be punished either? If any of them were dumb enough to ruin their career, maybe donning white robes and lit torches would go unpunished? Or how about wearing armbands and doing the nazi salute? Or what about any Japanese groups putting on a WWII Japanese kamikaze pilot helmet? Or those Latinos that dress up like Pancho Villa? Or any other group that does something along these lines? No punishment right? After all, fair is fair!

Yep, that’s it! They need more courses! Are you a Democrat, or a Substance Abuser?
