U.S. Urges Colleges to Rethink Questions About Criminal Records
New York Times ^ | May 9, 2016 | STEPHANIE SAUL

The Obama administration is urging universities and colleges to re-evaluate how questions about an applicant’s criminal history are used in the admissions process, part of an effort to remove barriers to education, employment and housing for those with past convictions, in many cases for minor crimes.

Education Secretary John B. King Jr. released a “Dear Colleague” letter to universities and colleges on Monday along with a guide, “Beyond the Box: Increasing Access to Higher Education for Justice Involved Individuals.” Among the guide’s recommendations is a suggestion that colleges consider delaying questions about criminal records until after admissions decisions to avoid a “chilling effect” on potential applicants.

Noting that an estimated 70 million Americans have some form of criminal record, Mr. King said people who have been involved with the criminal justice system “continue to face significant hurdles in obtaining access to higher education or career training.”

Most universities ask questions about an applicant’s criminal record as part of the admissions process. Requests for this information have increased in the past decade or so after several high-profile instances of campus violence.

The Department of Education’s announcement, in a telephone news conference with reporters on Monday, came amid growing concerns that admissions questions marginalize black applicants. A body of statistical evidence has emerged showing that black teenagers are singled out for disciplinary action in school, and stopped and arrested by the police at higher rates than other ethnic groups.

Why shouldn't colleges with selective admissions consider the character of applicants and prefer non-criminals? Since blacks commit crimes at higher rates than other races, maybe we should stop punishing crime altogether to avoid "disparate impact".

College is such a scam (and leftist re-education center), I can’t help but think it’s better not to get in.

This attitude will only encourage criminal behavior as young people realize there is no consequence for bad behavior.

Justice Involved Individuals

Sounds so benign. After all, who wouldn’t want to be involved with justice?

Criminal is as criminal does. Everyday soebarkah destroys more America to varying degrees. And it’s only getting worse.

Offenders are the only ones concerned about criminal records not being considered for jobs or college attendance. Good people don’t care if checks are run on them to qualify for either..

I once attended the USA’s biggest info confab on going to med school.

At the beginning there was this QA session with maybe the tippy-top guy of admissions of Harvard, or somewhere.

A black student raised his hand:

“What about...police records..? Should I even bother applying..?”

“We look at THE WHOLE PERSON....the WHOLE person...!”

And he stared really hard at the urban faces, which then smiled. And he smiled back.

I can’t think of an institution more deserving of an increased criminal presence than colleges and universities.

Give these leftist faculties a taste of their own handiwork.

Many blacks have criminal records. Now you know why Obama wants colleges and universities to “rethink” criminal behavior.

Ought to help a lot with the “rape epidemic.”

Wonder how excited Obungo would be to see an applicant convicted of cross burning get admitted as a result of this recommendation.

I worked for several months with a guy who had disguised his nine years in the Indiana State Penitentury for assault with intent to kill for stabbing multiple times his former girlfriend and her new beau. Unfortunately he met a gal at one of my former companies, whom he also hid his past, married her and had a child. She found out after giving birth and divorced him. Several months after leaving our firm, he was charged with her first degree murder with an axe as he lay in wait for her as she was leaving for work.
This is the type of sub humans Obama wants to put into our colleges and our neighborhoods.

He could have asked the same question if he lacked a high school diploma; as a preferred minority he’d be admitted anyway. When I attended a state school here in NJ (fairly competitive to get in because the cost was so much better than private schools) we had a whole building dedicated to “remedial classes” for preferred minorities. Basically these were high school classes without which white & Asian guys wouldn’t even be admitted. The tokens played there for a few semesters earning no college credits before either dropping out or joining incoming freshmen a couple of years younger than them in starting on their degrees. These tokens didn’t last in serious classes (lacking any real prior education); they quickly disappeared from standard majors and retreated to ethnic/gender studies and such. By junior year (when “general education requirements”, required of all students regardless of major, were largely completed), my classes were practically 100% white/Asian.

That is the idea. To remove the stigma associated with criminals and criminality. The anti-heroes become the heroes, in our culture and society. As was said by Benicio Del Toro in Swimming With Sharks, “Punching below the belt is not only alright, it’s rewarded.”

Opening colleges to unqualified “preferred minorities” (regardless of criminal record) has led to a large number of these people with college degrees that are essentially unemployable. Pretending they are educated, and can contribute something to a company’s bottom line, doesn’t make it so.

When I read of ‘Justice’ changing their nomenclature for criminals, I thought of a WalMart questionnaire where they wanted to know about my “experience” at their store.

Well, I told ‘em, it wasn’t an ‘experience’, it was SHOPPING!

I wondered if ‘Justice’ hadn’t hired the same people to do surveys and I’m surprised that ‘Justice’ didn’t change “criminal” to ‘customers’ of the ‘justice experience’.

[it also reminded me of The Three Stooges, A Plumbing We Will Go: “this house sure gone crazy”]

What could possibly go wrong here?

This is another bunker project by the soon to be deposed Obama regime designed to sow as much confusion into America as possible before he leaves. Anything to divide us and turn one group against another, or weaken western institutions is expedited.

Time is running out!
