Anheuser-Busch renames Budweiser as 'America'
CNN Money ^ | 05/10/2016 | Aaron Smith

Anheuser-Busch is renaming Budweiser, its most famous brand, as America.

All 12-ounce cans and bottles of Budweiser will feature the word "America" on their labels, instead of Budweiser, in the brand's distinctive cursive font.

The temporary label swap, which starts on May 23 and will go through the presidential election in November, is meant "to inspire drinkers to celebrate America and Budweiser's shared values of freedom and authenticity."

Those who can’t read cursive won’t notice.

The purpose of renaming is to boost the sale $$$.

Other beer drinkers (beer drinkers who don’t like Budweiser) will just roll their eyes.

I thought Anheuser-Busch trending leftwards recently?

Makes perfect sense doesn’t it? Particularly since A-B is owned by the InBev consortium based in Belgium/Brazil.

Not as much constitution to it, vaguely reminiscent of the original idea but no depth.

So will Bud Light now be known as America Light? That might not go over well with consumers.

And will Bud Ice be known as America Ice?

You could buy that out of a vending machine in Area 12 of the Nevada Test Site back in the day.

You got that right -
Budweiser will give America a bad name.
It’s nothing like the original namesake in CZ.

Some brands have become the household names...

Hand me a Kleenex (even if the box is labeled Scottie)

I’ll FedEx it to you (even if UPS or Postal Priority)

This Bud’s for you (even if you’re drinking another brand).

Or, Tim McCarver saying, “Budweiser is king of beers and the Cardinals are king of the baseball world” (after winning the World Series).

Yep, it’s like Coke II — dumb and dumber idea that won’t last.

Either the name will be changed back or the company will go away.

Sad, I really like the commercials, particularly during the Super Bowl.

Really folks, it’s temporary. Just in time for a couple of patriotic holidays you may have heard of: Memorial Day and Independence Day. Boy the “jump to conclusion and don’t even bother to read the excerpt” crowd is out in force today.
