Anheuser-Busch is renaming Budweiser, its most famous brand, as America.

All 12-ounce cans and bottles of Budweiser will feature the word "America" on their labels, instead of Budweiser, in the brand's distinctive cursive font.

The temporary label swap, which starts on May 23 and will go through the presidential election in November, is meant "to inspire drinkers to celebrate America and Budweiser's shared values of freedom and authenticity."

So people can’t step up the bar and order a Bud?

Ridiculous idea.

In 2008 the iconic American company Anheuser-Busch was sold to a foreign (Belgian) company. So somehow this name-change doesn’t do much for me.

Perfect example of capitalism’s abuse..a beermaker trying to make beer something its not. Manufactured in the US, yes; part of our national fabric, not so much.

Within the past year, I saw a list of beer brands that had experienced the greatest decline in sales, Budweiser was on the list as was Bud Lime. Bud Light continued to be the best selling beer in the US (at the time.)
