A 100 mile diameter comet broke up and 2 mile diameter bits hit the ice almost 12,600 years ago beginning the Younger Dryas ending 1,000 years later when the earth past through the debris field - as in will again sometime from 1960 to 2040 - the world will again change. How much damage depends on the size and quantity of the black coated bits in the torus debris field. None of your preparations will help - there will be thousands of years before any culture rises again - as it was before, so it will be again.
