"I am extremely saddened, disgusted, hurt and embarrassed that the Los Osos High School yearbook was able to get away with this," the student said
A Southern California high school student says she was "saddened, disgusted, hurt and embarrassed" when the school yearbook printed the name "Isis Phillips" next to her photo, in which she is wearing a hijab.
The student, who is not being named because her family asked for privacy, took to social media to call out Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga. She first pointed out the error on Twitter, then posted a photo of the yearbook page on Facebook with the following caption:
"I am extremely saddened, disgusted, hurt and embarrassed that the Los Osos High School yearbook was able to get away with this. Apparently I am 'Isis' in the yearbook. The school reached out to me and had the audacity to say that this was a typo. I beg to differ, let's be real."
The photo drew attention from many who criticized the school's mistake. As of Monday, the post had been shared more than 3,500 times.
Chaffey Joint Union High School District Superintendent Mat Holton told the Los Angeles Times the student was misidentified as a peer with the name of Isis.
Osos High School principal Susan Petrocelli offered an apology on Twitter Saturday, saying the school was taking steps to correct and investigate the misprint.
The Osos High School yearbook also responded on Twitter, admitting fault in the error.
"We should have checked each name carefully in the book and we had no intention to create this misunderstanding," the yearbook staff said.
Attorneys with the Greater Los Angeles office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) have been in contact with the student and her family and were investigating the incident.
"We join with the family in their concern about a possible bias motive for this incident and in the deep concern for their daughter's safety as a result of being falsely labeled as a member of a terrorist group," said CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush. "No student should have to face the humiliation of being associated with a group as reprehensible as ISIS."
According to CAIR-LA, some 200 yearbooks have been distributed to students at Los Osos High School.
The organization said the student will not likely return to school "until the issue is resolved appropriately."
Holton told the Los Angeles Times yearbook distribution has been halted until the error is fixed.
The first part might be true but I'd bet that someone on the yearbook staff is a queen beyotch who thought this would be funny among her "friends".

School officials said there was an 11th grader at the high school named Isis Phillips, KABC-TV reports. She transferred to a different school in the district.
Los Osos High School has apologized and says it is investigating the incident.
“LOHS is taking every step possible to correct & investigate a regrettable misprint discovered in the yearbook,” Susan Petrocelli, the school’s principal, said on Twitter. “We sincerely apologize.”
The Chaffey Joint Union High School District said in a statement, “We are investigating to figure how this happened and we are certainly sensitive to the young lady. We have been in contact with the family and will continue to work with them to determine how this could happen and how we can remedy the situation.”

Obama could tell you her fist name is Isil.
Maybe she could explain the difference in her Muslim beliefs from those of ISIS.
Just say something like, “ISIS believes XXX is a part of Islam, and I reject that.”

I think Miss Mouthy Jihadist owes an apology to the real Isis Phillips, but I suspect that will never be issued.
I think it’s kind of funny. Of course the crowd I ran with in school lived for moments like this. And if the joke was on us we laughed harder than anybody else. Running to authority figures was considered the worst of bad forms, unless there was physical injury not counting minor scrapes, cuts and bruises, then it was time to man up and take your licks.
The medalion in the photo, the sun set in the calf’s horns, was adopted by Islam in an effort to convert tribes in Egypt and Al Arabia (today Saudi Arabia). That symbol then later became the star and crescent of Islam we know Today.
The serpent is Satan and is sometimes perched above the Sun in other iconography, Satan the object of worship. Then and now.
Just an aside.
I often wonder why Obama and a handful of others call them ISIL. But the vast majority of the world says ISIS.
Then again Obama says “Pock-ee-stonn”. Instead of “Pack-i-stann”.
And he pronounces “Koran”, with a distinct Arabic inflection.
