CNN Ventures Into A Majority Democratic West Virginia County, They’re Supporting Trump(T)

It’s no shocker that Hillary Clinton isn’t popular in West Virginia. In fact, no one from national Democratic circles, like President Obama, Nancy Pelosi etc., is popular here. Obama didn’t win a single county in the Mountain State in 2012, and the last time West Virginia went Democratic was 1996. Clinton’s remarks that she was going to put coal miners out of business did not sit well with the residents of Logan County, where Democrats outnumber Republicans. In fact, CNN was hard pressed to find really any Democrat who supported Clinton—they’re all voting for Trump.

Header was too long. Anyway, weird how this works huh. Of course all of this is predicated on him actually being nominated in Cleveland. I do NOT trust prince priebus and the gopE at all. Despite all their statements. Is it telling that linda grahmcracker and yeb boosh have both said they won't vote for Trump or hildebeast? Is there something that they and paul ryan are working on?

Yep! They are right now panel testing various shades of lipstick to dress up the old fat pigs we've been swindled by for the last 20 years.

Hillary and dems in general have no shot in WV... the war on coal has ensured that fact for at least a generation.

This is one reason that it’s important that Paul Ryan’s primary challenger gains traction. It will put anyone inclined to try to steal the nomination on notice.

What this fails to mention that, with the exception of MA, WV was the most Democratic state in the country until 2000. It went for Carter twice, Dukakis and Clinton twice. If Al Gore had won WV, as history predicted he should, he would have been President. It was Al Gore’s anti-gun policies that cost the Democrats WV and now Hillary solidifies this.

Not surprising. Old style Conservative (yellow/blue dog) Democrats still exist in numbers in WV, KY and other states. Keep in mind that Kim Davis was a Democrat, and Conservative Democrats in KY gave Matt Bevins his surprise gubernatorial win there last year.

However also keep in mind that these are states that are “Blue” locally and state wide, but very Red for national elections. Any GOP nominee is going to carry WV, KY, TN and other similar states easily. So the question is whether Trump can pull similarly minded Conservative Dems over to him in places like FL, MI, WI and even NY. In enough numbers to swing those states to him.

Thank you for saying it before me.

Coal gets the headlines but any conversation with any West Virginian in any county will elicit ‘guns’ as the first and last election issue.

The MSM keep feigning surprise (or maybe it isn’t surprise) at the Republican hold on WV in presidential politics but we both know the reason why.

My only fear is that that DC lefty bureaucrats are subsuming the Eastern Panhandle and may tip the balance due to the rest of the state’s declining population.

Then why do these West Virginians still call themselves Democrats?

What plank of the Democrat party are they massively in support of?

Pretty much its a family thing, "I promised Granpappy on his death bed to always be a democrat..." for decades West Virginia was arguable the most democrat state in the nation. When I moved here in 1982, Democrats had an 87-13 majority in the state legislature, the Republican party was virtually nonexistent. Since the year 2000 the democrat party has completely collapsed in the state, so a lot of these democrats are actually voting straight republican.

West Virginia is VERY socially conservative, however it is also very pro-union (though not as much as it use to be). West Virginia also tends to be rather pro federal spending / welfare spending, as federal project bring a lot of jobs to the state and a lot of the residents are on welfare.

Romney won West Virginia by 27 % in 2012. The big question is will Trump win West Virginia by 22 % or 32 % ?

Really, who cares?

You beat me to it, guns are a large issue that needs to be driven home. Hillary would happily take your guns from you if given the opportunity. Think Australia which she liked. The cat is out of the bag and will not get back in, no compromise, they will want more tomorrow, if they don’t like it repeal the 2nd amendment.
