The wealthy should be grateful to have as much as they do given the civil unrest. Look around the world. Since most of the wealth is concentrated in the hands of elite Democrats and Republicans In Name Only, I don’t care to defend them.

Trump realizes that the upper class can probably afford a little to try to rebalance the wealth ratio. During the Obama debacle the “half/half” marker slipped to 54% lower class and 46% middle class. And with the hidden charges put in like the Healthcare bill that increased the cost of healthcare to everyone except the poor that weren’t paying for it anyway, there is a decided need to re-shift the balance. And it would have to be done with existing funds, not new programs.

the national debt has doubled since Obama got in and so has the wealth of the super rich.. but the middle class has gone nowhere.. I have no problem closing some of those loopholes(created by government)the extreme wealthy use to help pay down the debt and rebuild the national infrastructure

Rates will go down. Certain loopholes will be elliminated. Taxes will go up for some wealthy taxpayers, like hedge fund traders, who enjoyed loopholes, and therefore paid an artificially low marginal rate.
It is possible to make millions and pay zero taxes due to certain loopholes. This is the result of corrupt politics and lobbyist influence peddling. This is what Trump means when he says some wealthy people will pay higher taxes.
It’s entirely possible that’s what he intends, but that’s not what he said, and it would have been a VERY simple thing to say, so I wonder why he did not say it.
But he did say that.
His position statement on taxes on his website has rate reductions for all income brackets. He also mentions eliminating some loopholes. In his interviews he mentions that some wealthy people may wind up paying more than they do now.
It’s clear he’s talking about the loopholes when he says that, since that is the only way effective tax percentages can rise if the rates are lower.
He said “For the wealthy I think frankly it is going to go up ...” No mention of hedge funds or is he being dishonest? Lyin’ Donnie.

Trump doing something very rare for a politician but very common for salesmen: Creating realistic expectations. Personally I think it's a mistake, but I'm not Trump.

I’ve been over this. Saying X on Sunday, and then combining X with Y that was posted on his website earlier, does not mean that he did not say X on Sunday.
And again, YOU just summed up what you think he was trying to say quite well and succinctly in about 2.5 words. Why didn’t he do that? It is a VERY easy thing to say, and it is a VERY VITAL thing to say if you’re in front of a TV camera. Why didn’t he say it?

You make a good point. We can agree that Trump does not put his best conservative foot forward.
I don’t know why he does not, but thinking out loud, I can think of several possibilities.
First, that he is not a conservative, but wants to appear as one to those high information voters who bother to read his position papers. In interviews, he blurts out his true liberal leanings - i.e. tax the wealthy.
Second, that he is a conservative, and the conservative positions expressed in his position papers are his, but he didn’t write them, so in interviews he does not articulate them as well, although he’d like to. Hence, saying taxes on wealthy would rise, failing to clarify he means eliminate loopholes.
Third, that he is a conservative, as expressed in his position papers, but be has calculated that his appeal to moderates, crossovers and independents involves distancing himself from certain conservative talking points (third rail issues). Hence in interviews he is evasive and does not let himself get pinned down.
I think the third is the closest, although it could be a combination of all three.
Because I’m a pragmatist, I believe leaders can’t solve the problems we face without being fundamentally conservative. Conservatism is what works. Because I’m a realist, I believe leaders can’t get elected without hiding their conservatism, at least to an extent. There just aren’t enough conservative voters, and there are some conservative positions that unfortunately have become ‘third rail’ issues, such as entitlement reform.
Perhaps it is wishful thinking on my part, but I think Trump is navigating the inherent conflict above as best he can, with the idea of providing real (conservative) solutions as POTUS, but at the same time, with the aim of not losing the general election by foolishly grabbing the ‘third rail’.
I hope sincerely that you are correct. Remember I voted for Trump in the VA primary and will vote for him in NOV. I hope and pray for the best from Trump; that’s all I can do. But this mind-boggling hero-worship for Trump is STUNNING!!!! A LOT of FREEPERS truly believe that this man is the infallible gift from GOD, who will get exactly and precisely what he wants the day he moves into the WH, and who only wants perfect, beautiful, and magnificent things.
But I trust NO politician and I never will. The only perfect candidate who has ever existed for me is ME! And even I change my mind sometimes.
