Donald Trump Seeks Republican Unity but Finds Rejection
New York Times ^ | May 6, 2016 | ALEXANDER BURNS

Donald J. Trump’s moment of triumph this week quickly gave way to a trying and even humiliating test of his standing as a Republican leader, as a phalanx of the party’s most respected figures shunned the man anointed as their presumptive presidential nominee.

Hoping for a moment of party unity, Mr. Trump had scarcely declared victory in Indiana when the cascade of rejection began, starting with the announcement by George Bush and his son George W. Bush, the only former Republican presidents still living, that they would not back his candidacy. And on Thursday night, Mitt Romney, the party’s 2012 nominee, said he intended to hold to his earlier pledge not to vote for Mr. Trump, according to an audio recording of his remarks. Mr. Romney said at a private speech in Washington that he was “dismayed” by the state of the campaign. “I wish we had better choices,” Mr. Romney said. “I keep hoping that things will somehow get better.”

Mr. Romney’s remarks came just hours after House Speaker Paul D. Ryan, the nation’s highest-ranking Republican elected official, delivered an embarrassing blow to Mr. Trump, declaring that he had not yet proven himself worthy of an endorsement. In Washington, the announcement was seen as giving members of Congress a free hand to deal with Mr. Trump, without pressure from the speaker to rally around him.

Mr. Trump has responded alternately with anger and indifference: He has said that he does not need or even welcome support from all Republicans, and on Thursday issued a brusque statement saying he did not support Mr. Ryan’s policy agenda.

In a Fox News interview Friday morning, Mr. Trump said he had been unsettled by Mr. Ryan’s rebuke

What? Rejection from the GOP establishment should be embraced as a badge of honor.

Trump neither needs their endorsement or support.

Too be expected after Cruz’s farewell dump the file on Trump “press conference”. Cruz and the rest of the career politicans in the GOPe and their paid for chattering classes simply don’t want a unified party if that means following the Trump agenda.

The Republican Party is much bigger than just a handful of people. If this small group of people cannot get on-board with the GOP nominee chosen by the people, maybe it is time for them to step-down.

Unity on their terms means sure defeat in November.

Voters emphatically rejected them and their governance and Trump has to follow suit.

I don’t buy the premise of this article. That Trump wanted the imprimatur of the GOP elites and that he feels humiliated that they shun him.

Is this supposed to be a news article?

Under no terms will I vote for a single Republican candidate this, or any other cycle going forward. Trump will be the ONLY vote I cast this year for a Republican.

a phalanx of the party’s most respected figures

He means respected by the left because they can be counted on to cave to leftist positions.

What? The Booshes, Mittens and Ryan? Those establishment figures?

We can do without them. You all saw what happened to Jeb.

Why would he feel humiliated?

They were rejected by the party base.

Jeb, the establishment favorite, is gone.

The New York Times continues to over-play their hatred of American Conservative values, of which Donald Trump is now clearly the symbol.

Trump's "sin," in the case of most Republicans still not accepting him, is that he has had the courage to speak truth to the delusions of those intimidated by the "politically correct" mindset, evidenced by such sorry journalism as that of the New York Times.

So long as Donald stands fast, and continues to speak what is true to the pretentious advocates of a sham virtue, his following will grow--and will gradually include at least a sizeable portion of those now skulking & refusing to come on board. But none of the dissidents are worth compromising principle to win over. That really would be a mistake.

This Uniparty spin reminds me of that animated gif of Cruz spinning with his arms up in the air like a botched ballerina.

Thanks for posting this Uniparty spin.

Trump cannot sell out his voters to make peace with the GOP establishment.

Either they come on board or he will run against Hillary without them.

Its that simple.

"Donald Trump Seeks Republican Unity but Finds Rejection..."

..... Looks like the fun is over and folks are picking up their toys and going home. However, This is where Trump should really begin to shine by displaying those incredible unifying, negotiational and motivational skills that he guarantees that he possesses.
