ABC Show Trashes Angry 'White Men' and 'Filthy Country People'

If you ever want to know what liberal Hollywood really thinks, just watch a Shonda Rhimes show. In about every other episode she has characters going off on thinly veiled, self-righteous liberal monologues. Tonight, ABC’s Scandal had two separate characters rant about "white men" and "country people."

For those who aren’t unfamiliar with Scandal, GOP presidential primary candidate Hollis Doyle (Gregg Henry) is a character intended to spoof Donald Trump. The similarities in this particular show are endless: The opposing campaigns despair that “no matter what he does America loves him,” an ex-wife claims he raped her, he’s asked to disavow the KKK, and one of his slogans is “Dare to be Great Again.” Just to hit you over the head with it some more, the episode is titled “Trump Card.”

In order to get Doyle out of the race, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) has a meeting with him purportedly to discuss having her candidate be his VP nominee. She secretly records the conversation where Doyle reveals his racist schtick is all an act, that the people are stupid, and he’ll change for the general election. It is a liberal Hollywood writer’s dream of what a behind the scenes discussion with Trump would be like.

I watched five minutes of a show called Madam Secretary which had a Hillary Clinton type character saving the world, I just laughed at the propaganda. TV trying to prepare us for a woman leader. Not that there’s anything wrong with that if the woman leader was a good Republican.

We barely watch TV anymore, especially the non cable channels. I watch local news for about the first 15 minutes then go to cable and we end up watching HGTV, Building Alaska/Colorado/mountain cabin/barn rebuild or Hallmark. My hubby has to have the TV on for noise, even though he’s looking at stuff on the internet, facebook and I’m reading a book. They’ll mention names of celebrities and I’m like “who?”

Forget about Trump parodies. The show was preposterous well before that, from the first episode in fact. The president character is a Republican yet holds every political belief of a dyed in the wool Dem.

And the acting. Oh my! I sit in my office hearing shouting substitute for drama. Kerry Washington's dreadful delivery. “You...will...let...me...do...my...job...this..is...what...I...do!” A pause between every word, every time. If our government really works this way we are well and truly screwed.

We have a few shows we watch, but we record them so we can skip through the commercials. Some are on the major networks, but most aren’t.

I used to watch scandal for the watch the train wreck experience... but after the silent-night abortion episode, I quit cold turkey. Didn’t even watch that episode...
