'Dismayed' Romney says he doesn't intend to back Trump, worried about 'demagoguery and populism'
Washington Examiner ^ | May 5, 2016 | Philip Klein

Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, said at a dinner in Washington on Thursday night that he had no intention of supporting presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, and said he was "dismayed" by what he saw as a drift toward "demagoguery and populism" in both parties.

Mitt should hold his nose and support the presumptive Republican nominee.

I had to do that in 2012.

"Historically, Populism is the political philsophy of the "little man" who has given up...and is demanding that government protect him from the predations of the "rich and powerful".

So the populist votes in the fascist ?

So the populist votes in the fascist ?

That's the tendency. Populism is a retrograde philosophy that ends up empowering government.

In that sense, Populist movements operate the same way as Communist movements -- initiated by one segment of a society seeking protection from another segment of society through the agency of a more powerful government.

Moreover, Populist movements are usually led by the symbolic "Man On A White Horse" -- a "strong man" who can be counted upon to take "executive action" against the predators.

Like Commmunist movements, Populism is more about punishing one class than it is about rewarding the other class.

These people are having a very difficult time giving up their cushy places in America. They just can’t get it through their heads that the people don’t think like they want us too so they can continue to do their thing without opposition. Thanks to Trump, he started us on the path to taking control of America. My only hope and prayer is that he continues on “Make America great again”. Now that he started it, keep it going!

Please Jim Robinson, pull any thread about Romney.

He is butthurt that his stunt of bashing Trump was another Romney Flop. Trump supported this Chump and this is the thanks he gets.

Please Pull Romney threads, this is the first thing I see this morning, before my Coffee and it starts the day all wrong.

I agree Romney should be quiet and go away. But, we all know he isn’t over himself yet, so someone has to silence him.

Please pull Romney threads, he is shoving himself in our faces.

Trump supported him, campaigned for him, and donated money. Romney was happy to have his support....in fact Mittens begged for it

No. It is democratic. Same root, different word.

As a political theory, Populism is something quite specific.

From Merriam-Webster:

Definition of populist 1 : a member of a political party claiming to represent the common people; especially often capitalized : a member of a United States political party formed in 1891 primarily to represent agrarian interests and to advocate the free coinage of silver and government control of monopolies 2 : a believer in the rights, wisdom, or virtues of the common people
