The DNT ended at LBJ Frwy last time I was on it!
I have fond Memories of the Dallas area I grew up in and that is how it will stay in my thoughts. Not likely to ever go back there, the last time I was in the area was around 1997 for a funeral and now none of my kinfolk live in Dallas.
My mom used to be a server at Princes on roller skates way back when. There’s the 25¢ kid shows at the Inwood theatre, weekends at Lee Park (probably named something else now) Protests there in the hippie days.
Hamburgers at Goff’s on Lovers Lane. Harvey Goff..went to HS with him and Meatloaf at TJ...He went to Russia after the Soviet Union broke up, bought a statue of Lenin, and placed him facing west outside the burger place.
KLIF, The Mighty 1190. Worked there in its heyday with Mike Selden, Ken Dowe, Rod Roddy, and others. KNUS. Worked there too. Yes. Those daze were fun.
The DNT now ends at US 380 in Prosper. Great fun to make a high speed run down the entire length of it on a motorcycle at, er, “some” miles per hour. :D
The urban area of the Metroplex has gotten a lot larger in the last 10 years alone.
J Wiley Price is in Dallas County, Frisco is in Collin County.
Vickery Park (and the pool) are long gone. Keller’s is still here and now has a number of locations. Nobody’s found the ‘lady’ yet. Northpark is thriving and just completed a big expansion both on the original property but across 75 on the east side as well. Big Town’s pretty much imploded, it’s only used for gun shows, craft shows, etc.
Prince of Hamburgers closed down in 2005 because the then current owner refused to pay his sales taxes. The place was razed in 2011.
Carroll Shelby’s original shop is now the site of condos - but there’s a burger place on the ground floor that preserves the original front of the place and it does pay much tribute to Shelby.
You’re correct, it was Fairview I was thinking of. Anna is, of course, north of McKinney. Fairview is between McKinney and Allen.
Goff’s is still there. The current management is much friendlier than the crusty angry old guy that used to run people off.
