As I wrote in earlier post when we were in Nags head on vacation few weeks ago we were at restaurants where people from Europe were waiting on us- spoke to Hotel Managers, Restaurant owners who said they can’t get Americans to work in the hospitality, factories, restaurants so they recruit from Europe. They have quite a few restaurants and hotels built but can’t open because they have no workers.
I realized this is our own fault as Americans because parents today don’t encourage their kids to work outside of school anymore. Back in my day, every kid worked when they turned 16. Now it seems like its beneath them. Parents today give their kids everything from spending money, cars, video games, cell phones for free and don’t teach them a work ethic, if you want something, work for it. Just my observation.
I didn’t realize the shortage until we started talking to folks in the industries down South. They have a crab plant and have to hire foreigners because Americans won’t work there picking the crab meat out out of the crabs that are caught daily in the bay.
Just sad....
