Donald Trump's vow to round up and deport all of America's undocumented immigrants if he is elected president could shrink the economy by around 2 percent, according to a study to be released on Thursday by conservative think tank the American Action Forum.
The research adds to concerns about the Republican White House nominee's policy proposals, which range from tearing up international trade agreements to building a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico.
About 6.8 million of the more than 11 million immigrants living in the United States illegally are employed, according to government statistics. Removing them would cause a slump of $381.5 billion to $623.2 billion in private sector output, the Washington-based non-profit said in its analysis.

I didn’t come up with the idea.

I’m just waiting for the giant left turn. Wait and see, we’ll know soon enough who was right.
Yep, Econ 101.
Worth every penny.
Without the noble illegal we’d all starve in and live in mud hits. We should be grateful for them. /sarc
Bull***t.
I wish there were a like button for this one.
We deport Worker B. $1,000 out of the economy. I know that some gets sent "home", but some portion of that $1,000 makes it into our local economy. Non-Worker B takes Worker A's job at $1,800/month (I know, like THAT'S going to happen.)
Bottom line is that there was $3,000 in the economy before, and there's only $1,800 in the economy after.
BUT!
There's no appreciation in this study for the fact that the $2,000 in benefits Non-Worker A is getting is BORROWED money. They're not considering that that money has to be paid back and comes OUT of the economy at some point. Their analysis allows them to kick the can down the road for future generations.
The guy who lost to Stuart Smalley?
Why the Hell should anyone listen to him?
If we can locate 6.8 million on day one maybe this won't take too long to locate the rest.
And, with the Flood of Illegals we’ve been hearing about...probably the number is closer to 25 million.
This assertion makes the unwarranted assumption that none of those 6.8 million vacated jobs will be filled by those in the country legally.
more fuzzy math, haa!
No, but you’re spreading the manure against our canidate, so you’re a Hillary supporter.
And from a blog no less, is that your blog that you’re trying to get hits on?
BS. Pretending that Americans won’t work in high rise construction or any outdoor job is just ridiculous.
I’m in hotels and restaurants and other service businesses all over the country, and very FEW of the workers are Hispanic. Most ARE Americans.
Gee, they would have to hire Americans and pay taxes on them. Billions would stop flowing south of the border.
Did the engineering on a fast track office project c. 1985. The project was in Silver Spring, Maryland. That was my first exposure to Mexican drywall crews. I am fairly certain they were largely illegals.
The point being, this has been going on a *long* time.
Operation Wetback was conducted in the 1950’s. Those of us lucky enough to have been alive and American at that time can confirm to the rest of you that it was as close to a Golden Age as this country has ever had. Simple economics contradicts this article. Reducing the available supply of cheap labor by actually enforcing existing law can only enhance the value of the remaining labor. Rising tide ... all boats ... etc.
320 million Americans. Two percent of the population would be 6.4 million people. Since there are well over twice that many illegals, that means deporting all those criminals would raise the standard of living for real Americans.
Then get control of the border, decide how many legal immigrants and guest workers we want, and what the criteria are for legal immigration or work permits, and let in only legals. Anyone found in our country illegally, including in Trump’s first year in office, should be fingerprinted, banned for life from any legal reentry (as a student, tourist, or worker), and deported.
But just think of the “slice” it will cut out of the amount of taxpayer dollars needed for welfare.
Let me see if I understand this. We get rid of 3.3% of the people and GDP drops 2%. That means the people left in the US have more GDP per capita. I do not see the problem.
