While the Republican field has now been cleared for Donald Trump, the road ahead is still messy for the front-runner to become the official nominee at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, in July.
Currently, Trump has 1,012 bound delegates, plus an additional 43 unbound delegates who are free agents -- though they have told ABC News they support Trump.
Most likely, Trump will hit and far surpass the needed 1,237 in total delegates on June 7, when delegate-rich states like New Jersey and California cast their ballots. He is predicted to take most of the 228 delegates up for grabs on that day.

As I understand it. Ohio primary rules say that if candidate drops out 2nd place finisher gets the delegates. So that is +66
Meanwhile without the super delegates, how far ahead is Hillary, but if you listen to the press, she is so far ahead, yet Sanders still is whooping her all over the Country. It’s bizarro.

A candidate who got more votes in the Republican primary than anyone else in history and you are asking how does he get to 270?

The Republican wing of the Uni-Party is the reason there is a “Tea Party” and also the reason there is a Donald Trump.

RCP has Trump at 1,053 delegates right now.
I guess this is all just a formality now, but anyway, we have Nebraska & West Virginia next Tuesday. That's another 70 delegates, which would put Trump at 1,123 delegates.
Then, on Tuesday the 17th there's Oregon with 28 more delegates, which should put Trump at 1,151, and the Tuesday after that there's Washington with another 44, putting Trump at 1,195, a tantalizing 42 delegates short of the 1,237 required.
So, unless Trump is awarded some delegates from one of the suspended campaigns, it looks like he'll have to wait until June 7 to officially go "over the top". By the end of the day on June 7, however, Trump will have accumulated approx. another 300 delegates (303), which would put him at almost 1,500 delegates (1,498).
But procedurally, I guess, it's all a formality now.
Does this mean that Donald Trump is elected on the first and only ballot, or do they not even have a formal ballot?

The delegates must vote and a majority must approve the nominee.
That is the object of the exercise.
There are 464 left out there and predictions have him winning at close to 70% from her on out - if he won 70% of the remaining, he'd have about 1380 and there are only about 50 or so potential un-pledged delegates so anything over 1290 and there's nothing that can be used to stop him - short of the Hillary-approved system called "Vince Fostering".....
