It’s not really that different when a VP’s term is up. After the inauguration of the new team, the outgoing POTUS has an AF plane (no longer AF-1) fly him and his family home or to wherever they may be going. They are escorted by SS who will be with the ex-POTUS and ex-FLOTUS for the rest of their natural lives. They will have an office and office staffs paid for by the taxpayers, and other niceties.
The ex-VPOTUS can hail a cab!
