To Quit Smoking — Let’s All Vape

There is plenty of evidence to suggest that smoking e-cigarettes can be harmful — but now the Britain-based Royal College of Physicians thinks smokers should use them as a way to quit.

Their report says the devices are helping people more than harming them — at least so far.

“This is the first genuinely new way of helping people stop smoking that has come along in decades,” John Britton, director of the U.K. Center for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies at the University of Nottingham, said in a statement.

E-cigarettes deliver nicotine without the tar — and without some chemicals linked to cancer.

I think the jury is still out on vaping. Something tells me in 20 years or so it will be linked to cancer.

I’m holding out for the e-cigar, that combines the caffeine in a cup of coffee, a dose of nicotine, and the RDA allotment of vitamins - and medical marajuana.

It may be harmful, but far less than smoking. I wouldn’t recommend people who don’t smoke start vaping, but for smokers who haven’t been able to quit, it’s a definite improvement.

The problem I have seen so far with vaping is that people doing it do not have to use any designated areas and are blowing smoke all over the place with the excuse that it is simply water vapor.

Even if that is true, you are puffing nicotine into people’s faces that don’t want it. People can handle gum, spitting, nose picking, etc as long as they are not involved in the process (i.e. gum stuck to every hand rail). That’s the problem I see with vaping. Whether it is dangerous or not, the vapor engulfs everyone around you and people will be complaining.

I quit cold turkey and never looked back.

So did I: unfortunately, I did it many times, and all I had to show for it was the weight gain.

Switched to vaping 9 months ago and I feel a lot better. Fell off the wagon once in Europe when I ran out of juice. Couldn't believe how bad the aftertaste from regular cigarettes was.

“There is plenty of evidence to suggest that smoking e-cigarettes can be harmful...”

There’s mountains of evidence that cigarettes are MORE harmful than vaping, so even if vaping were harmful, it’s still better than smoking cigarettes.

Today is four months into quitting. Cold turkey for three months, then went and got a vape pen with juice with no nicotine because I was going to be around smokers. I introduced myself as ‘X, master of the world’s smallest clarinet.’ I felt dorky but who gives a crap, it helped with the physical ritual of smoking a heck of a lot when someone lit up. I will never be one of these people who won’t let smokers smoke around them after quitting.

The vape thing wouldn’t have worked for me cutting down on nicotine with lessening the nicotine in the juices. I would have been hammering that thing all day long. They don’t go out like a cig does, so you then have to light a new one.

I told the cat they should come with optional timers that turn them off that you have to specially reset after 4 or 5 minutes to mimic actual schmigs more closely for those trying to stop nicotine. He grinned. They know people are hammering these things, they want as much juice sold as possible.

That’s because there is this whole weirdo culture that tries to get the biggest cloud of smoke going. It’s like a hobby like gearheads or something. Some of those clouds don’t look like they could come out of humans, I keep looking around to see what car has the blown gasket.

I was puffin 15-20 cigars a day. Was down to 0 in about a month. No weight gain, no withdrawal cravings. Learned about Ohms law, resistances, coil wrapping, and blending my own liquids. Went from spending 5-10 bucks a day down to 1.

As long as ya don't chuck a yuge cloud, ya can do it discretely in a movie theatre, grocery shopping, just about anywhere. Just be respectful that others might not want to walk in your cloud.

My wife smokes the American Spirit brand. It is 100% organic tobacco with nothing added.

She says they are better for her. I say they are less bad for her.

The major objection is based on a ‘report’ by the FDA done several years back. Of the thousands of chemicals that come out of a tobacco cigarette, the FDA found no correlating chemicals in the e-cigs. The chemicals they did find were residue from cleaning the e-cigs after manufacture.

There is a printed warning on cigarettes about the tar from cigarettes on every pack due to its health effects. Guess what the FDA stated the tar from the e-cigs was?

This ‘scientific’ study by the FDA is cited by Kaiser and likely other health insurance providers as the basis of their objection to e-cigs. If this is the science our health provides rely upon, we’re really, really screwed.

BTW, the FDA did not report the tar content from e-cigs, if you were still wondering.

Health wise, they are a step up from tobacco.

Does that mean they are good for you? No. But, if you are addicted to cigarettes, a less harmful substitute is a good thing.

Best way. Wish my dad did. Instead, he smoked, even with a breathing device, up to the day he died. What a waste. E-vape no better, disgusting to be around.

Evidence of harm from vaping? Where?

Now, if I want evidence of harm from smoking tobacco, all I have to do is remember the days I cropped it. Anybody else can see that evidence by breaking tobacco leaves off of the stalk and letting the resin get on their hands.

When the resin sits for even a few hours, it turns into tar. THAT’S the stuff that causes harm to lungs, not nicotine.

Nicotine, even though it is the ingredient that the smoker really wants, merely rides along on the resin.
