Cruz, ending GOP bid, says 'we left it all on the field'

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, abruptly suspending his Republican presidential campaign Tuesday night after another crushing primary defeat to Donald Trump, assured emotional supporters in Indiana that they helped grow an “extraordinary” movement – declaring his team “left it all on the field” in their final push.

ADVERTISEMENT "It appears that path [to victory] has been foreclosed," Cruz told supporters in Indianapolis. "Together, we left it all on the field of Indiana. We gave it everything we've got, but the voters chose another path, and so with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign."

The underdog candidate, who all along had vowed to force Trump into a contested convention in July, stunned supporters by dropping out following a big loss in Indiana. Some people in the crowd could be seen crying and hugging each other.

But Cruz indicated he has no plans to fade away.

“I am not suspending our fight for liberty,” Cruz said.

A loser is expected to acknowledge and congratulate the winner."

"They fight like hell for six months, and they're saying horrible things, the worst things you can imagine...And then one of them loses, one of them wins. And the one who loses says, 'I just want to congratulate my opponent. He is a brilliant man, he'll be a great governor or president or whatever. I'm not sure you're ever going to see me there. I don't think I'm going to lose, but if I do, I don't think you're ever going to see me again, folks. I think I'll go to Turnberry and play golf or something." - Donald Trump, April 24, 2016 Link

Sounds like Cruz delivered a very Trump-like concession speech.

Earlier, Ted had become unhinged over his father and his ‘real life story’ beginning to unravel. So many unanswered questions with this guy and too many people are researching for the truth.

Trump had said he believed Cruz's father helped kill Kennedy. If someone said that about by fathers "real life story" then I expect I'd react badly as well.

IMO, Cruz had no plans of exiting until the exposure of his father’s past went viral. In addition to that damage, the shaky Canadian (NBC) timeline was ripe for exploration. All of this untimely news pulled Cruz out of the race. The combination of all that combined with negative polling were too much for any one man to fight.

In my opinion, Trumps bullsh*t about his father was just another reason for Cruz to detest Trump but wasn't the reason for leaving. It was the numbers, pure and simple.

Cruz campaign highlights: Iowa, being sworn in by Beck, picking Fiorina as VP. Did I miss any?

Both major parties are in trouble. We just hear about the GOP more than the Dems, but both no longer represent what people want. Of course, they rarely did but with today’s media it is more open about it.

We agree. My original (misunderstood) post was directed mostly at how Carly Fiorina was planning to pay back that half-million dollar loan from the Cruz campaign...and at the Ted/Heidi dragging onstage their not-ready-for-primetime children for political purposes only, a form of child abuse, IMO.

It will be hard enough for many of us Cruz supporters to overlook Trump’s claim that Ted’s dad helped killed JFK without Trump worshipers branding non-believers as heretics.

Yikes, is your tagline a personal statement on this morning after?

Your emotions have gotten the better of your thinking.

I've read and heard what he said, but Trump didn't say what you said.

You've jumped out there all by yourself and now you want to take others with you?

Please, get a hold of your self.

Fwiw, what are your answers to Trump's questions about the pictures of Oswald and the elder Cruz working that corner passing out whatever it is they're passing out?

I'm still trying to figure that picture and the connection.

Was Daddy Cruz a Cuban communist-wannabe working for the revolution or was he CIA or did he just happened to be caught on film in one of Fate's coincidental moments with some guy named "Oswald"?

I've read your posts for a while and I'm fairly certain you're a reasonably bright guy, so what's your opinion on those pictures?

Here in Texas I will vote for him again and so will most. He served us as our state Senator. You can have Rubio.

You have the sequence over the little dust-off about Ted Cruz's father, wrong. Trump only raised a question--not the statement you suggest--after being demonized by the father. That Trump has now embraced Cruz as a force for good was made very clear in his victory speech last night.

But enough of this. The two candidates are making peace, now. That peace is in all of our interests. Let's move on to the task of returning America to her heritage.

“I’ve read and heard what he said, but Trump didn’t say what you said.”

I quoted Trump. He said what he said. Of course, by today he didn’t mean what he said, although if he said it tomorrow, he would mean it tomorrow. And then could reverse himself again the following day.

“Fwiw, what are your answers to Trump’s questions about the pictures of Oswald and the elder Cruz working that corner passing out whatever it is they’re passing out?”

Not Cruz’s dad, as anyone with 2 brain cells can figure out.

I understand there has been a lot of anger and mud slinging by Trump and Cruz supporters and the candidates and their surrogates.... but the anger has to be let go.

There is no excuse for attacking someones kids, ever. I will chalk this up to a passionate heat of the moment shut down of your frontal cortex... but its really inexcusable and this kind of thing doesn’t belong here, or anywhere.

Bygones really do need to be bygones, folks. Please drop the hate. The 11th Commandment needs to be invoked if we are ever going to block the Hildebeast.

As my dad taught me, “If you can’t say anything nice about someone then don’t say anything at all.” Just let it go, please?

Something that everybody seems to forget is just WHY the GOPe hated Ted Cruz, and still does. Any “alliance” they showed toward him was purely #neverTrump and not the least bit friendly. Remember filibusters, hardline stances on spending and Obamacare, government shutdowns, etc.?

Cruz has been an unyielding conservative warrior in the Senate and very possibly the best Constitutionalist in office today. He would be the perfect replacement for Scalia on SCOTUS but his place in the Senate may be a gold mine.

If Trump lives up to his potential for starting a revolution in American government ... and I hope to hell he does ... then Ted Cruz in the Senate would be an incredible ally. I don’t expect Cruz to be offered the VP slot (did I just hear Newt Gingrich’s name floated?) but I do expect peace to break out between Cruz and Trump soon. Fences will be mended. Count on it.

Then let the revolution begin.

He is an honorable man, he did the honorable thing to heal the divide and move forward.

Ted Cruz is still my senator and he will be there, be re-elected as our senator from Texas when time comes.

More importantly, he will continue to give the establishment that hates him so......heartburn.

God Bless Mr. Cruz and thank you for fighting for the constitution.
