I do not remember, was very young at the time, but did look it up.

I have read he was the vice presidential nominee to McGovern for only 2 weeks after chaos at the convention briefly put him there. And of course McGovern lost.

As evidence that the Democrats would not pay a heavy price in lack of unity if Sanders somehow being snubbed by some power move, this example seems completely lacking.

“Cruz is nothing more than a bad footnote in this election.”

I totally agree. Cruz did his best to stay relevant in the GOP with his “Sea to Shining Sea” speech but it won’t be good enough. I hate to say this, but Ted was not the most likable candidate in the bunch. In his speech, he acted like the party will have to deal with his “wing” going forward.

Nothing could be further from the truth. There are already GOP politicians crafting their platform to take the best from Trump and the best from Cruz, and create a hybrid candidate for the future. Ted can’t change; he would lose his base; and he can’t grow his base because Trump stole the rest of the party.

It would not surprise me to see Ted lose his Senate seat.

Yep, that’s how you Trump types unite the party and win elections!

“Cruz is nothing more than a bad footnote in this election. A first term junior senator, a serial liar, and a Canadian natural born citizen. The losers are all of the people that ignored the Constitution and their conservative principles to support him.”

Spoken like a true Trump supporter. Good job!

The point is, if Hillary is out, at any point up until about 45 days before the election, Biden/Warren could be in.

By my count Bernie needs 63% of the remaining delegates who are actually voted on to tie Hillary in non-super delegates.

Hillary would still have 600 supers to put her ahead of him. But it would be great to see Bernie ending up winning the actual delegates and having to see her get the nomination purely by the unelected delegates.

He was a junior senator who tried to force McConnell to fight after they tried to co-opt him as they did Rubio. And what, exactly did he lie about, and as for the Canadian thing, that is a pure Trump. Take a fact and then spin it like a scandalmonger. Ever notice how far Trump got with the Obama birth thing? As soon as it failed to get him attention, he dropped it. We will see how far such tactics get him as the media closes ranks to protect the only politician in the country less deserving of the Presidency. We will see how his supporters like the boring Trump.

If we end up getting candidates that are half Ted Cruz, then that would be a big victory for his candidacy.

Most GOP nominees lose one primary before winning the next. Reagan, Dole, McCain, Romney to name a few. GOPers are conservative in bad ways as well as good ways, and prefer a familiar name they’re comfortable with than someone new.

Ted Cruz will be the presumptive nominee as soon as he enters the next Republican primary.

Bernie's strategy has to be racking up wins and making the case that he has momentum and polls better in the general election match ups so he can flip the super delegates to his side.

I don't know if it will work because I have not particular insight into the minds of Democrat super delegates, but it seems plausible from my own point of ignorance.

Remember in 1972 when Dem VP candidate Tom Eagleton dropped, POST CONVENTION, due to his history of mental hospitalization, Dem lackey Sergeant Schriver was in in about a week.

Eagleton had electric shock treatments!

You know, Biden has had two brain surgeries for brain aneurysms!

Reno89519, regarding your language in your post — is your “character” incapable of ending your attacks on Ted Cruz and his supporters (who, in case you didn’t know, are mostly hard-core constitutional conservatives and patriots) and uniting with them to defeat the “RATS and to take over effective control of the Republican Party?

Seriously, Cruz gave a very classy “suspension” speech tonight and Trump reciprocated with some kind words. Can you at least TRY to do things in that spirit moving forward on FR?

It seems odd that the supporters of a socialist would gravitate to a pure capitalist.

Trump is not a pure capitalist in any way, shape or form. He thrived on giving political donations to get crony capitalism and corporate welfare in his business career. He doesn't want a flat or fair tax. He doesn't want to reform Social Sec. or Medicare. He wants to keep in some kind of government-backed health care safety net. Time to be realistic about the candidate you nominated instead of trying to oversell him into something he's not. The most wealthy people in the country are some of the least capitalistic in general. They thrive on using their money to influence government policy to protect their elite position.

It is Trump from here forward. Hanging onto Cruz, bitterly defending him or past support for him, is the losing proposition. Cruz was rejected, he finally quit, time to move on.

Trump is a winner, is the winner. He has what it will take to beat Clinton, to Make America Great Again.

Consider Trump's winning positions on immigration, trade, jobs, national defense, the 2nd amendment, Christian persecution, and political correctness, just to name a few. Would you prefer Clinton's?

That is the real choice: Trump or Clinton?

Your move.

One of the realities of politics is that money is the grease that enables the political engine to go forward.>>> excerpt from the article -— from my idealist view i thot it used to be ideas.. Trumps ideas seemed to have won with the republican party.

I agree with you that Trump is a pure capitalist. It’s high time we had such a person in our White House.

Trump can be an American

Not a Republican

Not a Democrat

Nor a Conservative

Nor a Regressive

Sometimes a Right Winger

Sometimes a Left Winger

Always an American First.

Its like a new political party born

Bring it on.
