Report: Ted Cruz Prepares for "Somber Speech" Tonight Aide tells AP if Cruz loses, staffing cuts are likely

He has campaigned hard in Indiana, but a report suggests Ted Cruz is not expecting to win.

An aide to the Cruz campaign whose name was not given told the Associated Press that the Republican candidate is preparing for what the aide called a "very somber" speech at his election watch party in Indianapolis tonight. Though Cruz says he will stay in the presidential race even if he loses the Indiana primary to Donald Trump - and despite his public alliance with fellow candidate John Kasich to stop Trump - the aide told the AP that the Cruz campaign was bracing for immediate staffing cuts "at a minimum."

I am trying understand if Cruz gets KO'd in Indiana tonight, what is he going to say in his after election speech? What in tarnation will he say to the media?

Will it be something like this?

"I understand it's impossible for me to win the nomination, but I'm staying in the race anyway even though this is an election I can't win".

This is twilight zone stuff. Will the media ask him big question? What is your motive Mr. Cruz?

When Cruz loses tonight his money is gonna blow away like a popcorn fart in a windstorm. How’s he gonna campaign? Smoke signals?”

Maybe they can use the money that Beck has saved by fasting.

It would be great if he just announced the suspension of his campaign. 14 people have dropped out, so he’d have lots of company.

Works for me too.

I’d suggest he send a campaign aid out, but who would believe him.

Ted will have to announce his big decision, and do his best the make folks think he had a choice.

LOL.

I take no pleasure in the possible end of his campaign. I hope no matter what happens, the GOP joins forces to stop Hillary,

If Cruz drops out it will finally be a two-man race....Trump and, uhm, oh yeah Kasich...

The most enthusiastic Trump voters don't seem to get it, but that would be bad. A one-man race with just Trump would of course be best for Trump. However, a three-way race with Trump and then Cruz and Kasich as a footnote is better for Trump than just two. If Cruz drops out, slightly more than half his support would go to Kasich (more Cruz supporters used to prefer Trump over Kasich, but the ones he still has don't like Trump). In other words, the establishment would have a "surge" for Kasich at the end of the primaries, proving that GOP voters don't want Trump and that they have to derail the convention to reflect "the will of the people".

I voted for Trump a week ago, and I want Cruz to stay in. He is likely to cut his campaign staff way back tonight, but without dropping out of the race. That makes him less of a threat, without making Kasich more of a threat. Trump voters should celebrate such a decision.

Paid Hillary/Soros trolls will keep trying to start a fight, but we should not let them succeed. Assuming Trump wins tonight in Indiana - likely at 55% of the vote - there is no way Cruz can stop him. Cruz is no longer a threat, and his presence (given Kasich is staying) in the race is a good thing for Trump.

Cruz’s endgame? Put Hitlary or Anybody Other Than Trump in the white hut?
