The Republican establishment would like nothing better than for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to be the party nominee and then lose to likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said Monday.
The reason, Limbaugh believes, is that GOP leaders want to drive social conservatives out of the party for good. A Cruz defeat, they think, would do just that.
The establishment believes Republicans will lose to Clinton whether they nominate Cruz or businessman Donald Trump, he said.
"Therefore, the way they're thinking is it's better to lose with Cruz, 'cause that would say forever, 'No conservative should ever get the nomination and lose in a landslide,'" Limbaugh told his radio audience. "'And take the social issues with you, by the way,' they'll say.
Republican big wigs figure there is only one Donald Trump, but there are plenty of other tea party-types to come in behind Cruz, so it's best to let him carry the GOP banner in hopes he will lose in a landslide, Limbaugh said.
"Then the establishment will be able to say, 'See? You conservatives, get the hell out. Just leave us alone.
Goldwater, Cruz, we lose in landslides!" Limbaugh said the establishment will say, "You know, you constantly tell us that our Northeastern liberal candidates like [Mitt] Romney and so forth lose? Well, so do you. Get the hell out!"

“Rush, no one gives a rats ass what you think about anything any longer.”
And just what have YOU done for conservatism that matches Rush? Hmmm?
Who are YOU to tell Rush what to believe?
We heard are you a Canadian? Trump is lying about Gun Control, Abortion
It's you Rush
The guest on Lou Dobb's heard every word and thought he olut debated a Harvard debate Champion

It’s been quite obvious for a long time now that the GOP has no connection with us at all, other than to donate money and do the grunt work during elections.
So, in fact rush’s statesmen would at least be partly correct.
Where this is ultimately going , I do not know, but its clear that a page is turning.
“And just what have YOU done for conservatism that matches Rush? Hmmm?
Who are YOU to tell Rush what to believe?”
Rush and all the rest of these “so-called Conservative commentators and pundits” have been trashing “conservatism” for years. They are like a bunch ot TV preachers who “draw near to us with their lips, but their hearts (and their wallets) they are far from us!” I have worked and voted for conservartive candidates all my life and with very few exceptions, I’ve been disappointed by all of them. They have used “conservatism” to get elected, then jumped on the “DC Gravy Train” and only moved back to “conservatism” when it was necessary to bull$hit me into voting for them once again. So yes, while I don’t care to tell Rush what to believe, I will call him out for the a$$hole he’s turned out to be. Sorry if that doesn’t work for you but it’s still a free country, well sort of free!
Pretty damn accurate.
That has got to be one of the dumbest things I’ve heard from the man in a long time. As if these idiots have any control over the end results.
Trump is proving day by day to being worthy of the position.
Silly silly Rush.
I was a Cruz supporter up until the riots in Chicago when he basically took the opportunity to step on what he thought was a wounded Trump! I still believed that he could’ve turned that moment, into a WINNING moment, by standing WITH Trump at that moment by saying that it’s THE Left/Progressives/Socialists/Communists/ Marxists who are the true enemies of the First Amendment and HE, more than anyone, would defend it even if it meant him losing the primaries to Trump! But he didn’t....now it’s simply “Math”! Game over!
Repub party lost me 2 years ago.
Rush has been sneeringly mocking Trump supporters for a while. It is annoying. I barely listen to him anymore.
Rather than the 20 million listeners Rush has now, maybe he’d rather have the 6,000 Conservative Elites who run DC...
I’m sure most advertisers would rather have one ‘George Will’ than 100,000 of us common types.
Go for it Rush.
“Rush and all the rest of these so-called Conservative commentators and pundits have been trashing conservatism for years.”
What color is the sky in the world where you live? Whatever that color is, I’ll bet it matches Trump’s...and just what has TRUMP done for conservatism? Hmmm? When he was saying good things about Obama in 2009, and DeBlasio in 2013, just how was TRUMP supporting conservatism?
“Trump is the true conservative. / Cruz is a pretender.”
Really? When Cruz was fighting Obama, what was Trump doing? For a “true conservative”, Trump has sure spent a lot of time on the other team’s sidelines!
“Speak for yourself.”
Yeah, well I suggest you go to Rush’ FB page and take a look. Not much support there for the way he’s been behaving. So I’m not alone, but you may well be.
The GOPe are country club Republicans, blue bloods as it were, who only associate with their own kind. They respect power, social standing, and money, in that order. Minorities and the working class are vulgarities who exist to service them and nothing more. They came to dominate the Republican Party as the Democrats solidified their seemingly permanent hold on power in DC and turned the GOP into a reliable and compliant minority that was assured safe seats and all the pork and hookers they wanted in return for acceding to their Democrat betters. The top of the party, which we now call the GOPe, prospered financially and socially by this arrangement while having no responsibility for governing. It was the perfect setup for them.
Then the party was literally and figuratively wrecked by one man: Ronald Reagan. His challenge to Gerald Ford in 1976 ushered in the conservative wave that culminated in his election in 1980 and Senate takeover by the Republicans. It brought unwashed hordes into the party—fiscal and social conservatives, evangelicals and troublemakers who challenged the Democrats at every turn.
This completely roiled the GOPe and they have hated Reagan and conservatives ever since. It's why the GOPe fight hardest and viciously against conservatives while playing nice with the Democrats. It's why those of us who know say that the GOPe are fine with a Hillary presidency. And it's why Rush said what he said. He knows it. His audience knows it. Now you know it.
Rush has to be knowlingly lying when he says that Hitlery will beat Trump.
Trump will beat her like a rented mule and PETA will have to be involved.
Rush has entirely entered the region of darkness.
Republican big wigs figure there is only one Donald Trump, but there are plenty of other tea party-types to come in behind Cruz, so it’s best to let him carry the GOP banner in hopes he will lose in a landslide, Limbaugh said.
His latest whacko explanation for why St. Ted is losing.
