A Detroit teacher sickout continued into a second day on Tuesday, as the city's school district reeled from a funding crisis that could threaten some educators' paychecks.
All but a handful of the city's 97 public schools were closed as of 7 a.m., NBC affiliate WDIV reported.
Dozens of teachers gathered outside district headquarters in red union t-shirts and with signs with messages like "No pay no work" and "DPS better have my money" and "This is teacher abuse."
Meanwhile, Detroit was dealing with a second crisis — this one related to the solvency of the city's water system.
The city's Department of Water and Sewerage was preparing to start shutting off water to thousands of commercial and residential customers who have defaulted on their payments. The exact number is unclear, since many people rushed to pay their bills or arrange for payment plans over the weekend and on Monday.

Wonder how much of that money that could have fixed the water problem goes to teacher pensions and wages?

“The teacher who falsely call in sick are still getting paid, and that makes them thieves. They ought to be fired and then charged.”
None of this union nonsense will stop until governments apply the law and mete out the requisite punishment. Just like the criminal protests in Seattle recently where no one who was arrested will suffer any real punishment.
Ever listen to DFD operations? The Chiefs sometime have to request a truck with a working aerial. They will dispatch ladder trucks without working ladders to working fires to basically provide manpower.
The teacher's union paid good money to buy their government officials. Possession is 9/10 of the law. The teachers own the government, so they make the rules.

And yet the city, which has trouble with funding, won’t sell school buildings to charter schools.
How sad.
Back in the muscle car era when I was a young guy my friends and I were all motor heads and hot rodders.
Detroit was the center of the world for hot rodders, street car drag racers, etc.
Sort of Motor Head Mecca.
