Although that spectacle was a tad uncomfortable for the general public, I find it a little sad that people would resort to “vile racism” about the Obama’s daughters. I don't think there is any need for that. But like the other poster here said, Palin and her family has been the target of unrelenting hate, as other conservatives (especially women) have. I try not to lower myself to the double standards of the left, and normally just ignore news about the first family, unless it is in the context of politics and governing.

The racism charge is overblown, IMO. Yes, the article shows three items that are or are likely racist, but that leaves two others that made the editorial cut that left race out of the picture.

This appears to be more puffery to try and paint conservatives with a wide, racism brush.

Generally agree with your post. We are civilized even if THEY are not. I do think that Moochelle is fair game since she has made herself a player as Hillary did before her and because of her high living and European shopping tours on a government 757 or whatever at our expense. Her extravagance is uncalled for and her political views and unscratchable itch for power to be America's nanny and food fascist are also more than fair game.

IronJack:

Malia is not yet a player. She is just a kid. OK, she is THEIR kid. It is not automatic that she will be bad news. I admired Martin Luther King's rhetoric or oratory but NOT his politics but his parents and his children and several nieces have proven to be a lot more conservative.

From a distance, we have no way of accurately evaluating Malia's intellectual qualifications for Harvard and federal law (one sponsored by Bill Buckley's brother Senator James Lane Buckley prohibits the release of student records without permission of the student. She is qualified on several other scores that the Ivies care about. Her father is POTUS. That would be sufficient in and of itself. She graduated the very prestigious (and no doubt leftist) elite Sidwell Friends School as Chelsea Clinton did before her. She has vicarious life experience far beyond that of even Harvard entering freshmen which Harvard would value. In a strange and elite way, as child of POTUS, she brings a diversity to the campus far rarer than mere race, gender, nationality and the Iies value that above all else.

Unlikely though it may be, if she turned out conservative which is, by no means impossible at any of the Ivies, we would view her as a hero and celebrate every moment of her life thereafter. My wife entered Yale as a full fledged radical leftist by ideology and, at best, and vaguely Mainline left religious. By the time she graduated, her fellow students who were conservative had turned her very conservative and had her eager to be a Traditionalist Catholic. She edited books for Conservative Book Club, very conservative Catholic publications, worked for Bill Buckley, now teaches about ten subjects at a very challenging Catholic school, controlled by the parents and generally makes me liberal by comparison.

Give the kid a break. If she turns out to be a windtunnel leftist weasel like Chelsea Clinton (just as likely, given their respective backgrounds) there will be plenty of time to run her down later. Chelsea's parents may have graduated elite schools and Chelsea herself graduated Stanford. Chelsea is still an insufferable vacuous airhead and is unlikely to improve at her age.

Malia has a chance. It is not easy to grow up in a fishbowl. If she punts and defaults stage left, that will be the time to go after her. In the meantime, nice is better than not nice.
