Resettling the First American 'Climate Refugees'
New York Times ^ | May 2, 2016 | By CORAL DAVENPORT and CAMPBELL ROBERTSON

ISLE DE JEAN CHARLES, La. - A $48 million grant for Isle de Jean Charles, La., is the first allocation of federal tax dollars to move an entire community struggling with the effects of climate change.

With a first-of-its-kind "climate resilience" grant to resettle the island's native residents, Washington is ready to help.

"Yes, this is our grandpa's land," Ms. Bourg said. "But it's going under one way or another."

In January, the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced grants totaling $1 billion in 13 states to help communities adapt to climate change, by building stronger levees, dams and drainage systems.

One of those grants, $48 million for Isle de Jean Charles, is something new: the first allocation of federal tax dollars to move an entire community struggling with the impacts of climate change. The divisions the effort has exposed and the logistical and moral dilemmas it has presented point up in microcosm the massive problems the world could face in the coming decades as it confronts a new category of displaced people who have become known as climate refugees.

A vast majority of the $1 billion disaster-resilience grant program is spent on projects to improve infrastructure, like stronger roads, bridges, dams, levees and drainage systems, to withstand rising seas and stronger storms.

What a bunch of nonsense. The Louisiana coast is eroding for many reasons, none of which have to do with climate change.

This has just got to stop.

My grandfather told us a story about visiting his birth island at the mouth of the Chesapeake more than 100 years ago. It was eroded to the cemetery. Many of the coffins were washed to sea. He found his father’s grave partially exposed and removed the box to a new grave on the mainland.

Louisiana’s subsidence is not because of “climate change”.

NYT’s is replete with brainwashed illiterates.

If you build a house in a dry river bed, then expect it to be eventually washed away.
And don’t expect sympathy or money from your neighbors, because of your stupidity.

Coast lines are not static, they are dynamic. Always have been this way, and always will.

This was never a problem until man started building fixed structures on these dynamic areas.

For several excellent books on the subject, search Orrin H. Pilkey .

The article even mentions those reasons, both natural and man made, and then goes on to say that rising waters from climate change will finnish the job. Who takes over this land when the inhabitants are moved off?

And it talks about some poor family using a hot plate because floods from a storm ruined their stove. Maybe it’s just me, but if my stove was ruined in a natural disaster I’d just buy another one.

It’s about 99.8% “land change” and almost nothing climate.

The barrier islands were wiped out due to changes in the river system and various projects for the oil industry that hastened settling on the soil.

The weather has almost nonrole in their destruction.

Leave it to the Left to swindle dumb Yankees.

“Ain’t nobody I talk to that wants to move,” said Edison Dardar, 66, a lifelong resident who has erected handwritten signs at the entrance to the island declaring his refusal to leave. “I don’t know who’s in charge of all this.”

This was a compilation done by Chris Horner (I think) the author of “Red Hot Lies”, a great book. These are all things that have appeared in the media blamed on global warming.

"NYT's is replete with brainwashed illiterates"

NYT is merely reporting on the story. If you read the article, NYT points you towards the National Climate Assessment which has a wiki page where you can start your research so you don't have to be a brainwashed illiterate.

Just 60 days ago the media covered this extensively as to how it affects south florida. The GOP state govt doesn't want to have anything to do with it so these south florida mayors are moving fast to deal with the potential problem

And just a few months ago the Jason 3 satellite was launched which is the latest technology to study ocean surface topography, which is why the GOP congress is moving hard and fast to shut down the satellites. The main one they are trying to stop is the IceSat 2 which was scheduled to launch in 2017, but has been taken off the launch schedule.

Do you actually buy into this crapola? The current dire state of the Louisiana coast is due to dikes and canals. This story is about extrapolating sea level rise due to alleged climate change.
