This will sound crass, but there is a dynamic at play in politics.
It’s almost like a human embryo. Once it is fertilized, no other sperm can enter.
So once a person latches on to a candidate, or vise versa, no other concept can enter the mind.
Cruz folks couldn’t see the truth if it walked up to them and bit them on the nose.

Trump is an optimist based in reality. He has the ‘I’m going to kick your a$$ old school attitude, but he knows when to pull up if it is time. I’d say more about the subject in blunt term, but the post would get pulled. LoL. The same attitude as I got. It’s 101 in how to win. ;-)
Trump is actually a pretty amazing guy when you get down to it.
I don’t think he’s perfect. He has his problems, but I have more confidence in him than I do any of the RINOs since Reagan.
He may not agree with me, but he tells me what he honestly thinks. Where changes have come about, he has been honest about why. You can see a process.
One day he said he would welcome the Syrian refugees. Someone got to him and he actually listened. By the next morning he was singing a different tune. I call that reasoned and very productive.
The guy is for real.
Other guys put a happy face on their lies and try to tell you they didn’t mean it when they supported bon enforcement of the border, or Leftist phraseology addressing it, or supporting increasing H1-Bs by to 500% of what they were, or supporting the TPA... they just flat ass lie to us.
Trump tells it like it is. Do I trust him 100%? No.
Do I trust them 50%? Hell no.
I think there’s 3 that are WTA that may go like Utah and Wisconsin.
It doesn’t matter either way, of course. I’ve got Trump at 91 conservatively in California. Could be 100 or so.

New ABC poll has Trump 54% and 20% Cruz in California.
If this holds Trump may get 150+ delegates!
What with Kasich(D) and Cruz(GOPe), I’m guessing (admittedly) that 60% of 172 will give Trump 100 possibly, 91 at least likely, with K and C mostly taking the rest.
There’s probably a Bush cousin or two that will even give Jeb 1 or 2 votes.
With ABC’s latest poll where Cruz is up 30 points 54% Trump 20% Cruz, something tells me Trump will get more like 150 delegates! This is a New York blow out!

My speculation would be the threat of having sponsors boycotted or dropping and the ever present threat of the fairness doctrine.
