Survey says: 34 percent of Bay Area residents are ready to leave

Residents of the California's Bay Area are eyeing the exits, according to a survey by the Bay Area Council.

Some 34 percent of San Francisco-area residents are considering leaving because of high housing costs and traffic, The Mercury News reports.

"We can whine about this, or we can win by solving our traffic and housing problems," Carl Guardino, president of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, told The Mercury News. "The last time the Bay Area had seemingly solved its traffic problems was the worldwide recession of 2008. A recession is not how we want to solve our traffic and housing problems."

Well I just moved TO the SF Bay Area, so I guess I’m headed in the wrong direction. Expensive? Yes, but there’s also an extremely tight job market leading to some pretty high salaries. Traffic? Yes, but only a dummy sits in it while BART trains whiz by. I like the ocean and the mountains and my family and friends too much so I’m staying.

I liked SD much more than the Bay Area.
Only major downside is you HAVE to plan your drives if you pass thru LA.

I usually got out early morning to get thru LA by 6am
Not so bad in off-season but really bad in summer.

Every time I cross the CA border on the 80 I think “they’ve got that fruit and nut inspection station in the wrong side of the road”.

Seems like every month a new car with CA tags shows up in the neighborhood. Hope they left the leftist voting tendencies back in SF.

LOL! We had to fly through SF once and after touch down walking in the terminal, we too had a “hair on the back of your neck” kind of feeling.

You can’t make housing prices go up unless and until you have the job market to support it. Theres no similar job market anywhere so don’t worry too much about that.

All the other liberal crap.....much of silicon valleys liberalism is just people going along to get along IMHO. We want to get out of here and we are not doing it because the weather sucks here.....

Stay away from Texas because if it bites, stings or sticks you’ll find it here.

“No worries, San Francisco. There are many folks south of the border who are quite willing to take the places of those who leave your city.”

“Just don’t ask for any documentation, or for any skill sets. That’s all so last century.”

Since the last two decades of last century, San Francisco was a lead city in becoming a sanctuary city, and it has welcomed any so called undocumented with open arms. Republicans and independents are not welcome.

...U-Hauling it down to San Diego next weekend, adios San Francisco.

Good luck! SF is very seductive, SD even more so (albeit with many of the same shortcomings).

Traveled the same route via Santa Barbara some decades ago. Now an east-coaster and the only way I would want to return to SD would be to a house with dock in Coronado.

Hope the transition goes well!

“Which is worse for the areas they move to? Liberal refugees from San Francisco or Muslim Refugees from Syria?”

This is an extremely tough call.

Actually, upon further reflections, I’d say that the liberals are worse, because at least the Syrians have some respect for family values and the value of hard work.

Obviously, they need rent controls and massive gasoline taxes.

I do not even need to read this article. A quick scan blames housing costs and traffic. The real problem is, the entire Bay Area is becming crime ridden, ghetto thugs running amok, illegal alien hordes with an attitude running amok and invading everywhere, they get everything and rest of us looted. High cost for housing? Yes, only for those who actually pay the taxes, meanwhile for some reason muslims from Africa are squatting in houses in areas of suburbs others cannot afford in newly build housing and these foreigners just arrived and in no way can afford to live in those houses so we are being lied to by the government, we are paying everything for them to squat here, we are being lied to about the numbers of illegal aliens as well, they seem to get things and we pay for it all, crony capitalists and globalists get cheap labor, only cheap for them and not us as we pay for all the social services of this “cheap” labor and those who benefit from the cheap labor pay for none of it but sure hand out money to the politicians, it is overwhelming in numbers and the illegals are all being used as part of voter fraud, openly so, their salary is our taxes we pay and they are being paid to do only one thing - vote for the corrupt Democrat politicians who live in elite houses in the hill sides along with overpaid UC professors and administrators who teach communism but live elitist lives.

We go out to get gas or do vital shopping, the traffic problems are all hordes of illegal aliens, they are all driving huge SUVs and trucks, crap from their vehicles breaking our windshields, they crash into our cars and then if there is two or more they are all liars and say it is your fault, they go around with a “fu” attitude, harassing everyone not them, they steal, break into homes, rape and kill, they will say “Make America Mexico Again”, everytime we try to pump gas into our car there are black thugs blasting rap music where every other word is “f” and about shooting our police in the face, crime, crime, crime, threats, nothing can be beautiful or nice for the public because everything has to have ugly graffiti scrawled on it or broken including the gas pumps themselves with ugly graffiti literally scratched into the meter face of the pump, everything is in both English and Mexican writing, no assimilation at all but only intimidation and now threats, everything is now a scam, our every right is being taken from us by politicians and their illiterate armies of dupes and scum who are their intimidators who demand we not even be allowed to speak.

People are leaving because this isn’t America, but they are not sure where to go, it seems everywhere it is now happening, rich area, poor area and inbetween, everywhere is turning into Baltimore and Tijuana and with enclaves of Mecca and everyune can be open and with an attitude except us, the rest uf us, who are only suppose to pay taxes and shutup and be silent and our children are guilty of every crime of human history just by being born and from the very moment of birth “guilty as charged, fork over your stuff”.
