Yes, the redoubtable Spanish soldier did not bring women with them. True, that when Spain established their rule there, the Hildago elite managed to bring over fine ladies from Spain. Time however took it's toll of that separate elite. Mestizo is the definition that does identify the mixed race, as you will know.

About twenty years ago, I read of groups existing in remote areas in Mexico. They were the direct descendants of the indigenous people. There had been an outcry about the seizing of their land by concerned people in the USA. I don't know how it all ended.

I understand but might be wrong, that in Mexico, the lighter skinned people are, the more likely better off. The surnames stamp the European heritage of the majority in Mexico.
