Too bad you couldn’t turn on a really loud annoying alarm that would say something like “this phone is stolen” and you would have to take it to the police station to have it turned off. Is there an high tech genius in the house?
Perhaps she was trying to call police, so didn’t want to let go of her phone.
When you are getting pummeled like that, your mind races sometimes to faulty solutions.
Would have been better to let go of the phone and use fists for self defense, feet to get away.
Prayers up for this young woman. She’s actually in more danger now that her face and identity are in the news.
My IPhone has a tracker thingy. If stolen, I can go to a computer and and go into the “cloud,” whatever that is, and determine where the phone is as it moves around town.
Actually, I can’t. One of my kids could do it for me, though! :-p
This is why I don’t have my cellphone out on any trip into the city with the El. Bring a book!
The El can get extremely sketchy during working hours in the loop. That 10am time frame on the Blue line is full of homeless and din do’s as everyone else is in the office.
I agree with you except for this “all because ‘the man’ deserves it, due to slavery.” I’d say that’s an alibi, the real reason is simple... greed, entitlement and envy.

Charles Bronson’s Death Wish movies had a very interesting suggestion for a very effective self-defense weapon: a $10 roll of quarters in a sock. Can be used as a nunchuck upside a perp’s head.
While concealed carry is favored, still it’s not always advisable to blaze away on streets or public transit where bystanders could get hit.
I really like the sock ‘em sock, and have practiced with it.
I wouldn't be surprised if those pictures and videos haven't been uploaded to social media. The authorities, if they wanted to, could probably find those postings and identify the perps and witnesses.

It would have been suicide for 3 white students to travel to the south side of Chicago, so MBI arranged for a police escort. Each week we were met at the metro station by Chicago cops, who drove us to the school. When the class was finished they escorted us back to the metro station.
I suspect that the south side of Chicago - a massive, sprawling, economically-depressed area - is much more dangerous today than it was some 40 years ago. Truly scary.
I bought my wife a "Monkey Fist" for her key ring. Should get her to practice using it on a soccer ball or something now and then.
