How Donald Trump Painted New York Red

For decades, American political math has revolved around the Northeast – once a bastion of moderate Republicanism – being monolithically Democratic. Donald Trump's nationalist platform is forcing a political realignment the likes of which hasn't been seen since the 1980's.

For all their chest-pounding and back-patting about living in “the capital of the world,” New Yorkers themselves are pretty irrelevant on the national political scene. The Empire State hasn’t produced a major politician since Franklin Roosevelt; no, carpetbaggers like Hillary Clinton and Bobby Kennedy don’t count. Air conditioning and high taxation has sent middle-class New Yorkers fleeing to warmer, cheaper states, with New York now eclipsed by California, Texas and Florida in both population and electoral clout. The state’s heavy Democratic lean also means it usually gets ignored in presidential elections.

Donald Trump isn’t just the most important New York political figure in nearly a hundred years, he’s also the only figure who can put the Empire State on the map for the Republicans. As the first overtly nationalist major-party candidate since Ronald Reagan, Trump has brought about a major realignment in American politics that will persist even if he himself fails to secure the White House.

Lyin’ Ted and his Lyin’ supporters again? The future danger of American is that Mexican invasion we've been watching in the news. You're talking about trivialities when there is an enemy army inside our borders. Who pees where doesn't matter if the borders don't get closed or if Hillery imports 40 million Muslims to make America like Germany. We'll enjoy the blessings of Muslim rape and crime every day of the week.

“Trump may be able to do what some figures in the establishment have wanted to do but have been unable - finally marginalize and push the conservatives out of the party and into political obscurity like they were prior to the Goldwater / Reagan days. Trump will return it things to a more “Rockefeller Republican” ideology - but further to the left to encompass such ultra liberal things as taking away private property rights, doing away with the cultural moors (such as his support of Charlotte’s bathroom policy and opposing the state’s efforts to combat it), putting pro-life issues on the back burner and ultimately off the burner altogether, ushering in one huge big government program after another (after all, it is the Federal government’s job to “take care of everybody” and “you conservatives” will “have to get used to it! Get used to it, conservatives!”), etc. It’s quite a sign as to the declining moral state of the nation that this kind of message is now appealing even among significant numbers of the GOP electorate.”

I could not disagree more.

The Republican establishment(including Mitt Romney's father) sabotaged Goldwater. Goldwater would not have won anyway, but Gov. Romney, Rockefeller and a few others did everything they could to destroy his campaign.

Some feel the Republican establishment helped sabotage Nixon in 1960 too, but that is another topic.

The Republican establishment hated Ronald Reagan. They barely defeated Reagan in 1976 and did everything possible to destroy him in 1980. The Republican establishment ran popular moderate Republican John Anderson as a third party candidate against Reagan.

While Reagan was president the Republican establishment tried to sabotage his presidency.

Bush, after he was elected in 1988, tried to purge the Republican Party of conservatives.

In 2008 and 2012 the Republicans lost to an unpopular candidate, Obama, who they should have easily defeated. When Sarah Palin put the McCain/Palin ticket ahead the McCain campaign began sabotaging Sarah and the entire campaign. It seemed like they lost on purpose. In 2012, Romney refused to articulate any of the important issues against Obama and was easily defeated. It was as if he wanted to lose.

The establishment wanted Jeb! to be the designated loser this year. He lined up many surrogates to help him and spent over $150 million but got no delegates.

When Jeb! dropped out, the Never Trump movement began.

Romney made his speech attacking Trump and media people were told to say Trump was not a conservative.

Cruz who I liked at the time, was endorsed by Romney and Lindsey Graham and Jeb!. Glenn Beck was sent to help him.

Cruz began to turn into a very nasty and dishonest campaigner. Maybe it was Glenn Beck, maybe it was Romney and Lindsey Graham but Cruz changed.

The Cruz campaign deliberately lied to Dr. Carson supporters in Iowa saying that Dr. Carson had dropped and that they should vote for Cruz.

Cruz supported BLM thugs when they assaulted Trump supporters in Chicago.

Cruz released pictures attacking Donald Trump's wife.

Big dollar PACs spent hundreds of millions of dollars on negative ads attacking Trump.

But still Trump won. Overwhelmingly. He attracted new voters and a new level of enthusiasm to the party.

But still they tried to destroy him. These people did not like or trust Cruz but just used him as a tool to attack Trump.

The corrupt, incompetent Washington establishment has been defeated. Many Republican office holders are now backing Trump.

Trump will revitalize the Republican Party just as Reagan did.

What are your issues? On immigration and the right to bear arms Trump is conservative. But I don't have any illusions. On spending he's moderate. On taxes he's mostly conservative. On trade he's nationalist, which I call conservative but think tanks funded by billionaire traitors disagree. On defense he's for a strong military but against nation building. Neocons would say that's not conservative, but neocons are globalists so who cares what they think?

I'm willing to let spending slide for a few years if I can get border control and national right to carry in the bargain. If the border isn't controlled we're going to become a full socialist country, so that's my number one issue.

Is there any polling reported yet for the general election in New York?

It's really pathetic to see grown men whine when they realize they've picked a loser. When your guy says all the right things and then nobody votes for him, I can appreciate your distress. Maybe next time. photo CruzsLastStandIndiana_zps90j3pkhx.jpg
