Perot had 19%, but your point is taken. Still, Perot was polling well into the summer, and was leading overall at some points. If he hadn’t flaked out and dropped out of the campaign in the middle, he might have won some states.

Absolutely. Perot had some advantages that presently belong to Trump. Self-funding, skilled in manipulating media (Trump is better at it, but Perot was no wilting lily), weak candidates to play off of, pithy. Johnson generates about as much interest as John B. Anderson with younger hair.

Perot flaked out because he didn't really want to be president, all he wanted was to make GHWBush fail. The night that Bush lost, Perot was the happiest man I have ever seen.
