So, the whole nation depends on one dam? Maybe back in their glory days when the communist had not yet taken over, they might should have built a natural gas plant or two. Maybe a big coal fired rig or three? If you are a crook, you stand to ruin a country if they give you the keys. Wonder how much electrical poaching is going on up in the squatter districts? Will a solution come up from the people?

You might blame it on only having one dam to power things, or poor planning, or poor maintenance of other power plants or government corruption.

But, I imagine obama is already planning a trip down there to stand by the empty reservoir and blame global warming.

“Maybe a big coal fired rig or three? “

They have lots of low grade crude that burns fine for boiling steam.

It’s one of the biggest oil producing countries. Gas is dirt cheap. Everyone but a generator already.

There was an article posted here last night that showed what could be the real cause of the electricity shortage. It looks like rainfall in the river basins that feed the dam is about average. That led the author to look around for other causes. He found that the thermoelectric plants are running at about 50% of capacity, due to maintenance and supply problems. He figured that the dam has been drawing down the water to make up for that lost generation. Doing so deceased the head pressure at the hydro turbines, meaning they have to release even more water to make the same amount of electricity.

They have tried to blame their problems on a drought when it looks like the blame is on the socialist managers.
