In 1999, Carly Fiorina was named CEO of Hewlett-Packard, the first woman to lead a Fortune 100 company. Fiorina reorganized the company’s structure and forced a controversial merger with Compaq Computer Corp. in 2002. While the merger succeeded, HP’s board fired Fiorina and gave her a $21 million severance package in 2005.
She’s good. The company has done well thanks to her restructuring. It was full of total dead wood that didn’t want any changes to a failing model, and she got rid of them. And the remaining ones got her fired.
