Venezuela has a year round growing season. How the heck could they run out food?If you can not keep the fruits of your labor, you will not work. That simple.

What a pity
Back in late 80s early 90s I would go to Caracas frequently on business
The Altamira and Castellanos and Hatillo areas of southern Caracas were very nice and on a Friday or Saturday nite the assortment of gorgeous women everywhere at bars and clubs and sidewalk cafes was just astounding
Maybe the best female beauty cluster I ever saw this side of The Grove on game day or the SAS first class lounge in Stockholm
I almost lived there with my Brasilera wifey

Why?
They didn’t truly vote this in
Chavez took power and control of the masses all supported by a corrupted slum based electoral process in which opposition can be killed or have their assets seized
His successor is just more of the same

When work, including agricultural work, is not paid for the workers produce enough for themselves and no more. When the rulers then move in to confiscate that last bit then production ceases altogether and everybody is on a diet. Then either the revolution or slave universal labor neither of which will restore production beyond bare survival. Revolution will put another set of total controllers in power. The country will have no chance to recoup before another collapse. The only way out is a coup by a dictator who likes capitalist oligarchy. The way doesn't get very far>/i> out but survival is not threatened anymore excpet those the generalissimo deems threats to himself and his friends.

Socialism is wonderful to live under? Only if you're one of the elites at the top of the pyramid. For the rest of the paroles, it's poverty and shortages and misery. But, you cannot convince the believers in socialism that this is ALWAYS the result of their wondrous Utopia of free stuff.

Dunno ‘bout the government of Venezuela, but I’d make darn sure the farmers were producing. I’d use incentives by preference, but I’d keep them producing.
Which brings up an interesting question - are folks actually starving in Venezuela, or are the farmers actually feeding the company through a massive black market?

Smart farmers probably growing their own stuff, but clandestinely, lest they get placed up next the wall and shot for practicing capitalism.

Venezuela is feeling the Bern.
All American socialists should go to Venezuela for a month so they can experience what the demand for America.

The black market is ameliorating the situation to some extent but barter prices of food are rising as the government has begun some confiscations. Think Ukraine. I don’t think the Vzalians will let it go that far before throwing out the current regime.
