Looting On the Rise As Venezuela Runs Out of Food, Electricity

Food Producers Alert They Have Only 15 Days Left of Inventory amid Rampant Inflation.

Despair and violence is taking over Venezuela. The economic crisis sweeping the nation means people have to withstand widespread shortages of staple products, medicine, and food.

So when the Maduro administration began rationing electricity this week, leaving entire cities in the dark for up to 4 hours every day, discontent gave way to social unrest.

On April 26, people took to the streets in three Venezuelan states, looting stores to find food.

Maracaibo, in the western state of Zulia, is the epicenter of thefts: on Tuesday alone, Venezuelans raided pharmacies, shopping malls, supermarkets, and even trucks with food in seven different areas of the city.

In Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, citizens reported looting in at least three areas of the city.

Supermarkets employees from Valencia told the PanAm Post that besides no longer receiving the same amount of food as before, they must deal with angry Venezuelans who come to the stores only to find out there's little to buy.

Purchases in supermarkets are rationed through a fingerprint system that does not allow Venezuelans to acquire the same regulated food for two weeks.

On Wednesday, the Venezuelan Chamber of Food said in a statement that most companies only have 15 days worth of stocked food.

According to the union, the production of food will continue to dwindle because raw materials as well as local and foreign inputs are depleted.

> widespread shortages of staple products, medicine, and food.

We’ve seen this before.

1. Gain power by promising free stuff (and maybe add a little violence)
2. Redistribution - underpay the productive and overpay the unproductive
3. Production falls, prices rise
4. Implement price controls to fight inflation
5. Shortages become more serious
6. Government enters cycle of more and more dictatorial control and violence, diverting remaining resources to hardcore supporters
7. Revolution
8. Repeat - because people believe you can get something for nothing.

These stories are very interesting, I still see the lefties saying this could never happen here.

Economic denial still means you go hungry

Thank you for posting this. It is a good reminder what the US will resemble if our economy tanks. It is a clarion call to me to further my preparations for social unrest.

I once heard about firearms - it’s better to have them, and not need them, than need them and not have them.

So, I’ll re-think my bug out bag, food supply, safety plan, and many other things before I go to sleep. I need to be prepared in case they are needed.

That’s unexpected. Who would have guessed that rewarding parasites and punishing producers would have this effect?

If Obama were not so lazy, he would have put an end to the gap between rich and poor, bringing us all to the level of equality now celebrated in Venezuela. There’s still hope for socialism here though. Hillary or Bernie could finish the job!

Seems like socialist/communist Sanders would be touting Venezuela as a shining example to his supporters of how his "democratic socialism" works so well in reality.

But then I forget that his supporters probably don't even know where Venezuela is, let alone know how to spell it. They just hear "free" and that gets 'em hook, line and sinker.

One of the reasons Communism failed.....all the empty talk about “the poor” while the Commissars lived in the lap of luxury.

Kida reminds me of the redistributive jerk we now have in the WH. People are struggling to get by while this idiot is planning a billion dollar library——an edifice to his ego-—in poverty-ridden Chicago.

The Chicago natives grow restless while Boobamba collects multi-million dollar donations to satisfy his overpreening ego.

I would send this to my liberal brother but he would never believe this...he’d say it’s all lies. He lives in another dimension, Obama good, Tea Party bad. Hillary and Bernie are awesome, Trump, Cruz or anyone who mentions capitalism bad....

No economic incentive to grow food. The government takes it away from you and gives you money(?) to buy what you need. Who knows where the food goes after they take it. But you could ask the Ukrainians under Stalin.
