They wanted to see all of my monthly bills, my bank records, records of my ATM withdrawals, and an accounting of how I spent every dollar.
I've never heard of anything like that. Are you sure you're not confusing the Census Bureau with the IRS?

I am serious. I have copies of all of the letters. They were from US Department of Commerce, part of Census, not IRS. I know it sounds unbelievable, but it happened to me.
They wanted my bank statements and ATM records of withdrawals.
