He's explaining why he is a better nominee than Cruz, talking about the states he took, especially the early ones, were supposedly in Cruz's backyard, southern states.

He did say "Maybe I'm making a mistake" referring to not putting large effort in second and later ballot efforts. I think not, in a few weeks it will be accepted that he is the presumptive nominee.
