AMERICANS! Your government has taken you by the scruff of your collective necks and shaken all the sense out of you. How could a people be so stupid as to let the government dictate such bizarre things?

Further proof that allowing the government to choose the winners and losers is a lose-lose proposition, every time. Free market, when allowed to work, will always operate more effectively and provide a net benefit.

Of course, it will cost $30 each.

Who ever would have believed that our government has been reduced to passing laws regulating flush toilets and light bulbs?

I’m liking the new LED bulbs.

The CFL’s are dangerous garbage. I’ve had them blowup and shoot sparks out of the base.

Well, if it’s an efficiency-based standard, this new technology would not be against the law.

The key here is that it isn’t a straight black-body radiator—non-visible radiation from the filament is used to excite photons in the visible range from the surrounding crystal.

Very cool (or hot, if you like).

When the market is allowed to work, it works.

Actually, Thomas Edison invented a better incandescent light bulb a long time ago. I remember when I visited his lab as a kid they had original light bulbs still burning 75+ years on. I think he just realized that if the light bulb never burned out, you could only sell one set to each customer, so he included “planned obsolescence” in his product.

I do like the soft LEDs, but they're so expensive. We never converted any lights to the CFLs. And I do miss the incandescents......I loved putting a scent ring on them for a very subtle vanilla aroma in some of our rooms.

I do NOT want my incandescent light bulbs to be more efficient. They warm my home in the winter.

One of the big problems with incandescent bulbs was caused by the industry it’s self.

Early incandescent bulbs had a vacuum inside the glass envelop. about 3 decades ago, they found that they were much cheaper to manufacture, if instead of evacuating the bulb, they filled it with the inert gas Argon.

The vacuum of course doesn’t conduct heat, leaving it inside the bulb. Argon conducts the heat to the outside of the bulb, raising the temperature of the glass and wasting it into the environment.

This was the point where incandescent bulbs became very much less efficient.

This is the same government that thinks they know best about our healthcare.

And we have let them get away with it.

I often wonder how much Mercury was dumped into the environment by all those CFL bulbs.

This concept is too little too late. Its still not as efficient as LED’s.

All light is not equal, according to biological organisms.

This was strongly established by photographer John Ott. And the Ott light bulbs are still regarded as the best available full spectrum lighting.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Ott

By increasing or decreasing the various light bands in the spectrum, he was able to manipulate plants to flower, bear fruit, and even change the gender of plants.

So every time you read of a new kind of light bulb, be aware that its light might indeed be bright, but not very healthy for you at all.

We no longer claim to be the “Land of the Free”. You are not free when you are forbidden by Fed Gov to be able to buy an incandescent light bulb.

National Death by Bureaucrap.
