“This whole election year is heading for disaster.”

Nothing like a strong dose of pessimism to set the right tone for your post; your readers just can’t WAIT to see what droll and inspiring things you’ll say next.

“It does look like Trump will win the Republican nomination.”

I’d not count that as in the bag, but — yeah — it is looking like the highest probability outcome.

“It is also a certainty that Clinton will win the general.”

Right. Just like the very electable, experienced Romney was going to wipe the walls with Obama’s raggedy ass. Yes, Trump COULD get beat in november, but you’re WAY out in the skinny branches of unsupportable prognostication to be calling it a done deal at this stage.

“There also goes the Senate, House, and Supreme Court.”

The Supreme Court is a wildcard, but you’re not going to get a conservative out of a Kasich Presidency, and even Cruz has shown weakness in resisting the lure of the middle ground. So that could be a washout no matter which Republican gets to the White House next January.

As for Congress: given how pissed off people are at the establishment membership in the Senate, and the House, I entertain great doubts as to there being a plurality of voters who’d be all that saddened to see most all of the current occupants hit the road. Folks are in a “clean house” mindframe; a tough election environment for establishment incumbents, and an excellent one for fresh faces.

“It would have better if Trump stayed with reality television. His temperament, and vulgarity will lose it for him and Republicans like me.”

You speak too soon. SO many people are SO pissed off, right now that Trump’s fiery delivery, and his edgy outbursts completely resonate, and DEEPLY. He’s saying what millions are thinking, and he’s saying those things in very much the same way they’ve been thinking them in their own heads, if not saying them out loud, themselves. I’m sorry if that grates your cheese, but being able to connect with massive numbers of Americans at a deep, visceral level is campaign PLATINUM; it’s “reality television” in SPADES, and in that regard this election has been nearly ALL Trump, ALL the time, with Cruz “The Puritan” and Kasich “The Electable Guy” picking up the scraps.

“Trump is not a Republican and we should not give our nomination to him.”

TECHNICALLY, he is; every bit the Republican as any other suit with an “R” after their name, and three times the Republican of many establishment hacks who’ve been corrupting their offices for YEARS (hello, Graham, McCain, McConnel, Paul Ryan, and any other establishment beast you care to name). But — getting beyond technicalities — you go read his stated positions on core issues; he’s staking out political territory to the right of any other Republican candidate left standing. His 2nd Amendment posture is stronger than anyone else’s; and that’s not his only Ace.

Name one issue where Cruz has changed his position to be more liberal.
