Why didn't Rubio and Carson hang in there after they were mathematically eliminated?

Posted on 04/22/2016 12:47:59 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Well, for one thing, it would be counterproductive. With three, four or five candidates drawing delegates, it simply prevents anyone from getting to 1237 and ensures that the GOPe gets to install one of their own establishment guys at the convention. The malleable "rules" are designed to to preserve, protect and defend the establishment ruling class. Nothing more.

Cruz knows this. He has betrayed the grassroots.

The Republican Party in each state sets it's own rules. All the candidates knew them (or should have). If you don't like the rules, then get enough people to show up at the convention to support your changes and vote them through.

The map is interesting, but would be better if it showed percentages.

“Did Abraham Lincoln betray the grassroots of his day by not leaving the race when he was mathematically eliminated going into the convention?....”

Too bad he didn’t. We wouldn’t have had over half a million young men dead and the entire South destroyed for 100 years.

First of all, whether you want to keep denying the hard, cold facts and and lying to yourself, as well as making patently ridiculous posts to this site is up to you; however, I suggest that you stop doing that, finally, and look, REALLY LOOK at reality.

Trump supporters are very loyal; more loyal than any other candidates'. He attracts not only disaffected Dems ( of which there are MANY!), who couldn't vote in many primaries, because of crazy party affiliation rules that vary from state to state and some of which were instituted by NOT made public, lasts summer or fall.

Trump also has many INDY voters' support and people who haven't voted in years, or ever. Many of those people were shut out of the primaries too, but who would crawl through fire, over broken glass and knife blades to vote for Trump in the general.

If Bernie isn't the Dem nominee, a large number of those people will vote for Trump.

None of the people I talked about even sort of "like" Cruz and no, he isn't acceptable to them. The more people learn about Ted, the more they don't like him. I know that you don't want to hear that, nor will you probably accept this fact, but it is what it is and you can't refute any of the statements I have made in this reply!

We don't "hate" you; we know that you have just dug your heels in and are delusional.

Cruz is NOT a conservative and he has spit up on and shredded the Constitution. He is liar, has no accomplishments, a cheat, and unprincipled. I guess, from what you say, the only "values" you have are BAD ones.

From what you and some others posters here post, there is NO WAY AT ALL to dissuade you and frankly, I'm NOT even going to try. Trump can win without your vote.

Cruz supporters are leaving him to support Trump every day, I swear the only place in the real world or the internet where I encounter any number of hard core Cruz people is right here. That’s it.

I agree with all you have said...I have been watching Cruz, not as a President but as a V.P. for a long time, then Iowa happened, ok, well I gave him another shot, then Rubio happened and that did it...

Then there was Colorado, Utah and Wyoming and now he is nothing to me...

You can say Trump doesn't have ‘Conservative’ values, and he doesn't 100 percent, but neither do the rest of them...Cruz right now is showing he isn't anywhere near being a ‘Conservative’, he is hurting this process by staying in, he isn't going to get the nomination no matter what he does, if it comes down to replacing Trump at the Convention, it will be Jeb Bush, that's the only reason the Bushes are backing Cruz and we all know that...Bush will then lose and give Hillary the White House...

There are things that Trump says that I don't like, I have to take a very deep breath and exhale slowly, I've already broken two computers over this election, so is he right for the Country, yes....he is first an American, he was born, raised and built his business the American way, he has a gift that very few people have, he can see how things can be, he is for a wall, he is for vetting people legally before letting them come into our Country, he is for our Veterans and Wounded Warriors, he is for our Border Guards and our Military, he is for redoing our taxes, he is for bringing jobs back to America for American people, he is for a better health care plan, he is for economy our Country needs to badly, and he's willing to listen and make deals that will benefit America...you can't get anymore American than that...

Cruz and Kasich should back out, and help Trump to make America safe, rich and beautiful again, those that have given their lives for and body parts for that have fought for Our Country deserve that!!!

Actually, after Jeb imploded, the GOPe all went all in for Rubiol Didn’t help one iota in FL and he withdrew. Cruz is their 3rd choice. Not really their *choice* but what they’re left with till the convention when they can do him in, too. He’s become their “useful idiot.”

At this point, in for a penny, in for a pound. Cruz has been so roundly slandered here and elsewhere by Trumpettes, he might as well go for it and hang in there. Otherwise, the Trumpettes would say his getting out meant they were right. Now, I am sure he understands the no win Alinsky rules crap that has been pulled on him, and frankly, that is a disgrace that should have a significant part of the Republican electorate ashamed to show their faces, but I think he’ll hang in there.

He burned that bridge long ago.

No, I think Trump burned the bridge by acting as if Ted's first name was "Lyin'".

Of course, Trump does that to anyone he disagrees with, "Trump fired back: “Dopey Prince @Alwaleed_Talal wants to control our U.S. politicians with daddy’s money. Can’t do it when I get elected. #Trump2016.”

"Dopey"? Foreign relations are going to be interesting, if Trump gets in. How many other bridges will he burn, and with whom?

Those who do not put America First are no conservatives.

No we are principled Conservatives.

What profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his soul?

By throwing principle to the wind, you have sold your birthright for a mass of pottage.

You forget that there is a level of government beyond man, although perhaps you do not believe in God. Those of us who do know the day will come when we answer for our decisions, for our willingness to stand for what is right. If you are willing to throw those principles away so you can "win" you will have won nothing and stood for nothing.

That is between you and Him, just as my decision is between me and him, but there are some things I will not vote for.

There is nothing conservative in casting principle to the wind to vote for a political chimera.

Hahahahahaaaa!

What a joke! Teddy Bare is the ultimate chimera! He is nothing more than a sleazy lying lawyer who will take money from Chinese Communists* to go against an American company. He will sell his soul to gain a few delegates when he has no chance of winning. He is a fraud, and Teddy Bares are too blinded to see him as just that!

Poor Teddy Bares. grasping at straws and bailing the lifeboats.

VOTE TRUMP!

*While at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, Cruz represented Pfizer in a lawsuit brought by a group of public hospitals and community health centers who accused the drug manufacturer of overcharging. The Supreme Court eventually threw the case out.[71] Shandong Linglong Rubber Company was found guilty of marketing versions of tires that were based on blueprints stolen by a former employee of a Florida businessman and ordered to pay $26 million to the Floridian. Cruz worked on the Chinese company's appellant brief. The appeals court denied the appeal and affirmed the jury's award.[72] Cruz represented drug manufacturer B. Braun Medical Inc. in front of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit after the company was found guilty of wrongfully discharging a former employee. Cruz asserted that she had failed to prove that B. Braun had directed her to violate the law and that she had not presented sufficient evidence that her refusal to violate the law was why she had been fired. The appeals court rejected Cruz's argument and affirmed the $880,000 award.[72] Cruz represented Toyota in an appeal to the Texas Supreme Court in an statute of limitations case, where a judge wanted to investigate Toyota for contempt after a former Toyota in-house lawyer accused Toyota of unlawfully withholding documents in a product liability case.[73] Cruz unsuccessfully argued the judge's jurisdiction expired thirty days after the case was dismissed following an out-of-court settlement -wiki

It’s over for Cruz. There is no path for him to the nomination that does not split the party and allow Hillary to destroy the nation.

I respect your opinion although I do not share it. Cruz, the 97% proven conservative is not a "traitor." Like Trump, he's a contender.

If Trump doesn't get 1237 before the convention, he's going to have to negotiate with Ted or Ted's going to have to negotiate with Trump to make a unified front against the Dems in November. Calling Ted a traitor and other names will not accomplish successful party unification.

Trump will serve his deal making position better by ceasing calling Ted names. Trump too often acts like that Biff character in the "Back to the Future" movies. It's childish and unproductive. To his credit, Ted has patiently refrained from engaging in any of the school yard-level stuff. I taught my own kids to behave better, and I am reasonably sure you did too; its troubling that Trump continues in this vein.

What is a mathematical certainty is this: Trump is going to need Ted's supporters like me to win; similarly Ted's going to need Trump's supporters to win.

Neither faction is going away and both factions have to be brought together in order to win.

Trump can't win without Ted's supporters and Ted can't win without Trump's.

May the wiser, the more principled, and more masterful of the two be chosen to be the lead dog, and let the other summon the wisdom to support the leader when that time comes.

FReegards!

“No we are principled Conservatives.”

Hogwash. You are throwing your vote away on a man who does NOT LIVE the “way” as many seem to think he does. He does not even live with his wife.

“Those who do not put America First are no conservatives,” is pretty much a short quote from the site owner here, so feel free to take it up with him... if you disagree. I happen to agree.

One should be able to live their life as a believer without insisting the government reflect them directly as opposed to the general will of the rest of the country.

Ted is largely, strongly and increasingly perceived as a liar and a cheat... and he HAS performed actions that serve only to confirm this in the minds and view of middle America. He IS now a “traitor to the grass roots...” according to the owner of this site.

Of course, your own soul is yours and you may govern it or lose it as you choose.
But this country is NOT yours. WE do not agree with you about Ted.

You only have one vote in the matter, one of millions. The same God who allowed that to be as it is, has also ordained that this nation NOT to be a reflection of the pseudo-fake evangelist “face of God” blasphemy that runs rife Ted’s within campaign followers. He is no prophet, is no messiah of hope, no beacon of truth. Those who hold him or project him as such... I firmly believe are party to the sacrilege.

You are free to partake of it at your own risk. And you are.

Queers in the bathroom got some of your friends worried? Pack a 45. Get good with it. Get your wife and daughters trained on something defensive as well. Wait for them outside the door, if you are concerned.
That used to be SOP for a father and husband.

We are all very likely gonna need to be prepared, if Ted keeps cheating to win, because it will result in Hillary getting elected.

When Iran nukes us, and Mexico takes our last 2 jobs, we won’t have any place to argue about how much more morally pure your ideology is than anyone else’s. Win your argument, and end up all of us dying of nuclear radiation. At least we were pure in our vote for Mr. “face of god” right?
