Donald Trump’s More Accepting Views on Gay Issues Set Him Apart in G.O.P.

...

His history with the gay community is a long one. He donated to charities focused on the AIDS crisis in the late 1980s and early ’90s. In 2000, when he briefly considered running for president, he gave an interview to The Advocate, a gay magazine, in which he supported amending the 1964 Civil Rights Act to “include a ban of discrimination based on sexual orientation.”

“It would be simple. It would be straightforward,” Mr. Trump said in the interview, adding, “It’s only fair.”

Sixteen years later, gay rights advocates are still trying to persuade Congress to pass a similar measure, but they have struggled to win support, especially from Republicans. The last Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, opposed similar legislation in 2012.

Mr. Trump declined to be interviewed for this article.

His ease with gay people does not seem to be the result of deep soul searching, but, rather, the product of the Manhattan social and political world he has inhabited the past five decades.

“I live in New York. I know many, many gay people. Tremendous people,” Mr. Trump said in an interview in 2011.

He has been playful at times, such as in 2000, when he and Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani appeared in a skit for a political roast, during which Mr. Trump nuzzled and caressed the mayor, who was dressed in drag.

Friends say he also views gay rights through the lens of a bottom line-minded businessman.

“His key concern is, Are you capable and able to do the job I hired you for? And if you are, very little else matters,” said Abe Wallach, an openly gay executive at the Trump Organization in the 1990s.

You have wisely spoken. I believe the same. This nation is experiencing Divine Judgement, including the blinding deception of those who are perishing.

Cruz shamelessly begged for money from Paul Singer, one of the primary advocates for same-sex “marriage”, and other homosexual activists all over New York City. He told them all that if elected president he would not attempt to do anything to change the law on same-sex “marriage”. That is the REAL TED CRUZ.

Kind of funny how some think any POTUS can monitor who uses what bathroom while ISIS beheads Christians. Priorities are skewed.

Or, is it just another easy pot shot question that leftists ask of Republican candidates only, knowing it will put them in a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” position?

And yet, Cruz answered the question just fine:
"We shouldn't be facilitating putting little girls alone in a bathroom w/ grown men. That's just a bad, bad, bad idea."

Law or no law the things you suggest can and do happen. ALL females of any ages should be taught safety in numbers. And believe me no 9 year old of mine would be unaccompanied in any public restroom. Lesbians can be just as aggressive to children as can a male.

As you said common sense is not bigotry. Common sense would dictate that parents protect their children and not leave them unaccompanied. My 14 year old granddaughter has no idea why I have to “wash my hands” at least if she goes into a public restroom, but common sense tells me she will not be in there alone.

If you want to know what he really believes, look at the positions he held ten years ago.

Yup

There is a method moderates and leftists use often, they move to the right when campaigning. When obama was campaigning he screamed how unamerican it was for President Bush to raise debt levels and he should reduce spending. Rubio got into the Senate by pretending to be conservative, then he went back to who he was. Even McCain pretended to be conservative when campaigning.

My advise to people is to look at who they are before they started campaigning.

Trump does lean to the right on some issues, but not as many as he claims while he is on the campaign trail. People always fall for it.

You are right, you need to look at people's positions prior to when they are running for office, because those seem to temporarily change while running for office.

Never mind the mythical perfect candidate. How about an *acceptable* candidate? Does one exist? I don’t think so.

Please name one conservative who is advocating that homosexuals be shot. That is utter left wing homosexualist propaganda. And don’t say the Phelps nutters, because they are a Democrat anti-Christian false flag operation. And your past experience in public bathrooms has no bearing on the issue because the leftist gender radicals that now run our society want to CHANGE the bathroom practice of society such that males are not males and females are not females if they subjectively choose to ignore physical reality.

“How are we to vote between two evils.”

It seems that we’ve been doing that for awhile now. It just wasn’t as obvious as it is now.

Are you with her in public school bathrooms? Are you there when she showers after PE?

The reason for me even posting is so many seem to think this new law is just fine. Now Trump lifted his kimono and showed he is really a liberal fooling the Republican masses. He has NY values, which consists of NONE!

A pervert can attack someone today, just as you say, but why are we passing a law to protect pervert rights that would get them arrested last year? What does it help?

I would tell you what happened to me as a 10 yo boy delivering papers, but it would take far too long to write. Suffice it to say, I know how these perverts work. They don't need any more time to be alone with normal people. Everyone is always talking about what they would do or they carry a .357 to take care of these things, but in truth, they almost never see it coming till it's there. Instead of putting these people in jail, we are now treating them like "regular" people. They are sick and fantasize terrible things about you and me. Their break with reality is as close as a cheap stall door with a $2 lock. I'm against teachers that are "gay" or the new term LGBTQ, for years now. I'm against gay scout leaders. I'm against gay youth leaders in churches today. I'm against gays adopting kids cause they ALWAYS adopt their own gender. And of course, I oppose them marrying for obvious reasons that have more to do with insurance, inheritance, and pages of legal entanglements that come with such arrangements. Does anyone even think about why they desire to get jobs working with youth? When someone even comes into my church and asks for a job working with the youth, they go through such a background check a pervert can't get passed. Just asking to work with youth triggers such an alarm, they are guilty before proving themselves innocent. The bathroom law is just one more stupid thing we have allowed to happen. You won't hear about the rapes and murders in bathroom encounters anymore than the rate of illegal aliens murdering and raping today. Just as they cover up the name of honor killings if they are able to suppress "Mohamed" from the story.

I live in a small town of about 3500 people. If you look back 10-15 years, almost all of our news worthy crime stories not involving drugs come from the "school" choir directors,Band directors, the Soccer, basketball and softball coaches, Church choir directors, and youth ministers. Not all of it was homosexual, but a surprising number of them were. Almost all of them were covered up as long as possible until criminal prosecution was inevitable. Improper touching, and trying to get them to meet off campus, watching them dress and undress and shower, were treated as nothing until it was proven with witnesses and was kept as quiet as possible so as not to look "judgmental" and intolerant.

Just as you wouldn't want a man watching your daughter shower in gym class, why is it so tolerated for a bull dyke to watcher her in the shower because she is a woman? How about an ex semi pro football player with a wife and children getting caught molesting several young boys? It happened in the small town I grew up in. Turned out, everyone knew he was gay, they just thought he was harmless.

It's a parents job to protect their children, but even more so to protect others children. That includes passing laws and blocking others.

I am not voting on ANY SOCIAL ISSUES. Does not win us the White House, ever! The only thing that can change “Social Issues’ is appointing SCOTUS judges.

Exactly . Only thing it is good for is getting Freeper's panties in a wad. Total leftist media TRAP!

The problem as to where transgenders can use the restroom has a simple solution. Let them have their own bathrooms in homes for the mentally ill.

It is a parents responsibility to know who your child has contact with EVERYWHERE especially at school. It is easier at school.

I don’t advocate transgender or gays using public restrooms not of their birth gender, but will you volunteer to be the bathroom monitor to verify gender? Fact is no one will. There are some distasteful things in life I can’t control.

There will be no one to monitor and to make the show they love to make gays will flaunt breaking the “law”. For me I will continue to be the responsible adult that accompanies children or other female to public restrooms. I can not do the gender check thing.

So your school has a bathroom monitor?........really?

Never heard of one, never seen one.

Are you just arguing to be arguing? I'm telling you point blank, if someone wants to molest you or your child, THEY WILL, and you act like you will prevent it somehow by being vigilant. If these freaks start checking out bathrooms because you can't discriminate, they will loiter there and if cops come by to check them out, all they have to say is "I'm gender confused, leave me alone".
