Exactly.

No contradiction.

That's a contradiction in my world.

If someone told me that I shouldn't have done something because it resulted in negative consequences and then hours later told me I should feel free to do it, I would see it as two diametrically opposed pieces of advice.

He never said NC didn't have a right to make the law they did,

I haven't seen anyone claim otherwise.

No, that is not a contradiction at all.

If I tell you it is bad to smoke and shouldn't do it, and then say that you are still free to do so, how is that a contradiction?

He gave his opinion in the first statement and then stated that the States were free to disregard his opinion.

You are just looking for something to hold against Trump, but it doesn't work.
