How Powerful is Persuasion? (Trump in a landslide)
Dilbert.com ^ | 4/21/2016 | Scott Adams

Posted on 04/21/2016 5:28:12 PM PDT by GilGil

The effect you see in the study is a big reason I predict Trump will win the general election in a landslide. Trump understands persuasion at this level, as he often demonstrates. His opponents do not. He’s bringing a flamethrower to a stick fight.

I reckon and have for some time, that Cruz supporters have viewed him as a “messiah”.

If you are in that circle, then I imagine you are correct, many of that type will stay home.

Better not to vote for someone if their “messiah” isn’t on the ticket.

Easier to stand by and scream “I told you so” after every mistake Trump will surely make (all humans make mistakes... messiah’s don’t)

Gives you that feeling of smugness you just can’t get from anywhere else.

Are you in California? I’m a Cruz supporter who said from the beginning that Trump would clean up in New England and NY/NJ with Dems and Ind. I have never been to California and don’t have a great feel for the state as a whole.

Like I said every democrat I’ve talked to is voting Trump.

Six months from now, after Trump loses in a landslide, this is what we will be reading at Free Republic:

That's something you should post often, and soon.

It won't take long for reality to catch up with even you, and then you will realize how foolish it sounds.

I live in the “bluest” area you could imagine.

For the first time in my (seven decade) life I am seeing and hearing the Blue Collar
Guys who have always been conservative in their values but held under the sway of
unions, openly supporting a Republican candidate.

These guys have always belonged on the right.
They love guns, hunting, hot rods and their families.
Most have some form of Christianity in their lives.

The Dem and Union bosses see what’s going on and they’re
in a panic. The Trump Tent may well pan out bigger than
the Reagan Tent.

This is a change year...with a rotten democrat nominee (Hillary). Trump has got this.

Adams addresses exactly that point: he may be more crude in word & demeanor, but when faced with survival (be it from an immediate scare or just ongoing sustenance), he’s the one 2/3rds of people will turn to.

This race isn’t Trump v Reagan, it’s Trump v Hillary. That’s the choice we’ll have to make, and much as you may hate the guy you’re going to prefer the crude “get things done & bring home the money” guy over the “crotchety gramma who will say anything to get you to like her while leaving you worse off”.

Punchline at the end:

“Here’s a little experiment to try at home. Record one of Hillary Clinton’s televised rally speeches and put it on TV with volume high (but not too high) when you expect a female friend or relative to knock on the door. Answer the door and say nothing about the television in the background. Then watch the expression on the face of your guest. Two-out-of-three times you will see a pained grimace. For many people – male and female – listening to Clinton’s speeches actually hurts.”

So GG:

You are saying that Trump = Romney.

With all due respect, YEAH, THAT’S THE TICKET!

In addition to what you said, I’ve been using the analogy of the greyhound vs the junk yard dog, where Cruz could be thought of as a greyhound and Trump is a junk yard dog.

A greyhound might bark, and carry on in protecting a perimeter, but might not be a huge deterrent to some. Right now, I want the junk yard dog. That dog is not elegant, but he flat does the job that needs doing.

It is surprising that you are not aware of it.

Trump's people have never called me, and my state is voting for him on Tuesday. Cruz called my cell phone, which is the number I gave them. They also called my home phone as part of their general calls. I assume they will call in the next three days, but with or without a call, I will vote for Trump.

I have talked to many lifelong democrats. Most of them will vote Trump.

Same here - the only hard core Hillary (or Bernie) folks are the leeches who refuse to help support themselves - those that actually have jobs seem to be pretty strong for Trump vs. either Hillary or Bernie.
