Kasich has been running for Vice-President since the beginning. He figures that he can deliver Ohio, and that is enough for Trump, or any nominee, to select him. He did win Ohio in the primary.

I agree and therefore it is in his interest to have Trump come up 50 or 60 delegates short. He is then then (At least in his mind) the GrOPE balance to Trump’s outsider.
