VP Power Person - Col. Alan West, John Bolton, or Newt Gingrich?
None if them has even had the balls to endorse trump
West is a retired LTC for gods sake and a political loser
Wth does he know about arm twisting in congress to get the president’s agenda passed ?
Granted the dems gerrymandered him out of a job but give it a rest
This is no Patton
Secretary of the VA
Maybe
If there are no women problems hidden like Cain
Never thought of West. Either him or Tancredo. I would sooner Tancredo since he has some good experience.
I am afraid its gonna be Kasick though. Hope not.
Doubtful. Each of them are firmly associated with the East Coast as is Trump himself. I think Trump will reach West for a running mate.
...or Newt Gingrich?WOW, Now there's a person who could really direct, and work with the Legislative branch!
“VP Power Person - Col. Alan West, John Bolton, or Newt Gingrich?”
I especially like the idea of Gingrich being close to Trump, as he’d make sure that we significantly bolstered the reliability of our power grid, including EMP protection (he wrote a book on the issue, “One Second After”).
Bolton I would like to see as Secretary of State. Trump might not pick him, though, because Bolton is more favorable to the use of force overseas than Trump appears to be - but I REALLY like Bolton, and he’d be a great choice to fill in both the perceived knowledge and credibility gaps that Trump has on foreign policy.
Veep is a bit tough - you want someone who is not only not going to undercut the President (on the negative side), but someone who can help either bring states on board or solidify the base, plus be someone that can be groomed for eventual promotion to the Presidency. Sessions would be great for solidifying the conservative base (and be another conservative voice, one who - unlike Cruz and some others - has been in line with Trump’s views on immigration and trade since forever). However, he’s kind of old (70 later this year, only about 6 months younger than Trump) - you want someone in their 50s in this case (IMHO).
I would love to see it be Mike Lee (though he’s only 44). He would definitely solidify the base, and is on board re: immigration and security.
However, to counter the woman/minority issue (because you KNOW that Hillary will pick some Hispanic as Veep, probably the Hispanic Obama, Julian Castro), maybe he needs to pick a woman or a Hispanic. Susanna Martinez would seem to fit the bill nicely - both a woman and Hispanic, she could also bring New Mexico to the ticket in November. She opposes bringing in Syrian “refugees,” which is a great start, and she is a fiscal conservative, but I honestly have no idea what her stance on immigration or guns has been/is. On the negative side, she’s not the “heavyweight DC insider” that Trump mentions every once in a while as his ideal Veep. Also on the negative side, I’m not real thrilled about the idea of a woman President - mainly because of the fact that many countries/cultures around the world would AUTOMATICALLY discount her credibility, regardless of the actual merits of the particular person.
Mary Fallon of OK might also be a good choice, but I don’t know much about her. She was in the House for 4 years (not exactly heavyweight on the legislative end of things), and I don’t have any familiarity with her positions.
Nikki Haley could have had a shot at it, but she took herself completely out of the running by attacking Trump a couple of months back...plus, nothing in the way of legislative experience.
Alan West would, IMHO, be better running DoD or the VA. Having someone like him to fix the VA would be fantastic - you KNOW that he cares about the vets, and doesn’t give a rat’s arse about stepping on the toes - or sticking a boot up the arse - of the bureaucracy if they stand in the way of helping the vets.
It is a tough decision, but I think that there are plenty of really solid people to pick from, people who would very nicely complement Trump, and who (most importantly) would be able to step into the Oval Office and do a good or great job. Gingrich wins hands down on the legislative heavyweight issue, as well as gravitas...but he’s 72 and a white male. Martinez is pretty much the opposite, with some goodies thrown in like good on the budget and (apparently) on immigration. Like I said, a tough choice.
