It is self-serving for Trump to complain about corruption simply because the state party in those two states preferred another candidate over him. I am sure they would rather have had a Bush or Rubio to vote for. Trumps problem is that despite his successes his numbers was not great enough to force them to accept him as inevitable and he is widely portrayed, true or not, as even less electable than Cruz. When the rule was struck, the intent was to bolster the size of the front runners-lead. That was not supposed to be any of the three men still in the race. Now Trump is the only one who has a chance to reach the magical number of delegates with his victory in NY. Even though he gathered about half the support that Hillary did in her primary and two-thirds that of Bernie, Cruzs vote was humiliatingly low. There will be tendency to stop the effort to stop Trump from getting what he needs to win on the first ballot, because his support is soft, both in the party and in the nation. I fear that we are back to 1964, not because the Democrat candidate is near as strong as Johnson was in 1964, but because the need to prop her up is very strong among the National establishment.
I prefer a man who is not basically a celebrity.
The leadership of the GOP made a pledge to Trump that they would run the contest fairly. In Colorado, Wyoming and other states that the leadership was not only biased but unapologetically and openly biased. I am not sure that you are even attempting to dispute this.
Despite the GOP leadership’s efforts, Trump still has over 50% more delegates than Cruz and has received millions more votes. Trump has a generated a great deal of excitement and we have seen record breaking primary turnout on the Republican side because of it. Trump is a great candidate. Your comparisons to Goldwater are off base. I always liked Goldwater, but he like Cruz had a narrow base of support. Trump has much broader support.
I grew up on acreage with horses, cows and other farm animals. The old saying that you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink really is true. You will choose to live with your delusions long after they are all exposed. Cruz was the candidate most aligned with my positions, but he was a very flawed candidate with a very narrow base. He has negative charisma and makes misleading statements every time he opens his mouth. It is very obvious at this point that he cares much more about himself than the future of the country.
“I prefer a man who is not basically a celebrity.”
That dog won’t hunt. In the past 35 years, Trump has probably made 98% of his money in commercial real estate development. The “celebrity” excuse doesn’t even amount to petty cash in his life earnings.
“Sen. Ted Cruz for the first time said he believes the Republican Party is headed to a contested convention. “
Ted Cruz is saying this because he is desparate and losing. The Republican Party is headed toward nominating Donald Trump and Cruz is headed back to his senate seat. He is just dragging his heels about dropping out.
As a political figure he is basically a celebrity. If you want to elect a successful businessman, there are many such men in Forbes Magazine. Or go to the Fortune 500. But what has brought him this far is his show business persona. He is rich, but few rich people are television personalities. Like most such people, he is a person we think we know but do not. We thought we knew Bill Cosby, but we knew the persona he created. You might ask, why did Trump devote so much of his life to a television show that is basically the same as Duck Dynasty? We watch them because we find them charming. We trust that they are, (normally) what they seem. The head of the family is a man who did once play football especially well.Terry Bradshaw says so, and we trust Terry. He has done much better on TV than he did as a football player and we know EXACTLY what he did on the football field. Trump? We only know the cards he is showing us.
I expected better from you. You are using DNC talking points.
You havent heard what I think of Hillary. In short: she is a monster, an evil person. A Hillary presidency would be a disaster for the country.
