ah memories of the vulcaphoonquake of 1992. Was on a frigate going into subic in the PI got turned back for an incoming Typhoon - afterwards pulled into Subic just in time for Mt Pinatubo to go off with quakes post and prior to eruption. 3 days of firehose washing ash off the deck in OBAs.

I met a guy that said he and friends were driving back to Washington State from camping in Idaho when they ran into the Mt. St. Helen's ash fall.

They had to spend a couple of days in a HS gym in some town.

The car was a mess, espcially the interior.

Then there's the potential health problems from pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis to consider, too.

We had been supporting Operation Sea Angel after the giant Bay of Bengal cyclone, pulled into Subic a few days after the big Pintubo eruption then got back to Sasebo and Mt Unzen erupting not too far away. It was an interesting year.
